Site outage 6-11-12 and 6-12-12 - Miguel - 06-11-2012


The host sent an email - that I didn't see - about an hour before the site went down stating:

"Due a security exploit in the [redacted] version running on the server, we (need) to perform emergency maintenance on the server to upgrade to the latest version. We will be doing so in the next hour and we do not anticipate the total downtime to exceed 10 to 15 minutes."

It took much longer than that.

Throughout the day of 6/12/12 the site was frequently down because the host was being attacked.

Today is 6/14 and HaleyFans was also down and out briefly on 6/13. The host said they were again being attacked and it was difficult to understand the motivation and combat it as the attack was aimed at the server and not a site. They said they were going to change the server IP (probably relocate sites to a different server).

As for IF, who knows? I did learn today, as I outlined in another post, the company that provides the software many companies use was hacked. That occurred much further back than I originally knew -- about a month ago. I think hackers who steal or threaten others livelihoods are worhty of condemnation because they attack productive members of society for personal gain (either monetary and/or ego).

Probably information that you are already aware of but my personal status, as a note of courtesy Miguel, is that I've also had problems with this site since the problems started. Even today the 15th, the site is mega slow and basically non responsive and I've struggled trying to participate. Hope this info is helpful, if not.. sorry to waste your time. Appreciate your efforts..

The site was down most of today (6/15). I assume the host was aware of it because the back end of their site was also down (no way to file a support ticket).

I did find them on Twitter and they had tweeted they were again being attacked.
