Jonathan the turtle in 1886 and again in 2014

Jonathan (hatched c. 1832)[1][2] is a Seychelles giant tortoise (Aldabrachelys gigantea hololissa) that lives on the island of Saint Helena, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic Ocean.

Jonathan was brought to the island from the Seychelles in 1882, along with three other tortoises at about 50 years of age. He was named in the 1930s by Governor Sir Spencer Davis. He continues to live in the grounds of Plantation House, the official residence of the Governor, and belongs to the government of Saint Helena.

His possible age is estimated by the fact that he was 'fully mature' when brought to St. Helena in 1882. 'Fully mature' means at least 50 years old, giving him a date-of-birth no later than 1832. The photograph was originally thought to date from 1902, but actually dates from 1886,[1] showing Jonathan four years after his arrival on St. Helena. Measurements taken from the photograph show that he was definitely fully mature in 1886....

Interesting video, Tusk. I recall seeing early Steely Dan on American Bandstand. One thing I recall is the Walter Becker was a very sarcastic person and gave few serious responses when Dick Clark interviewed them.

Tom Scott appears in the video and was an arranger, conductor and player on various songs (of the horn section) -- interesting that they he didn't play the sax on Deacon Jones.

I saw another video about Steely Dan's method. They would go through a ton of session musicians, picking them if they fit they sound they were looking for in the specific song they were working for

They talk about it in this, an awesome clip for Peg, where Fagen and Becker use the sound board to pull up the drums and bass to the song...

Every once in a while I see something that reminds me David Grohl might be one of the coolest 'throw back' rockers there are left....he's almost always at some kind of Beatles event...then there's this (he broke his leg so had to go on tour sitting in a chair, I think Axl borrowed it to go on the Guns and Roses Tour)

Any ways, apparently, he invited an audience member to sit in for him on vocals while the Foo Fighters covered Rush's "Tom Sawyer"...the best parts of the videos is Grohl's face geeking out for the guy boldly taking on the song

All this talk about Guitar influence stemming from Haley's HR3 hints got me reminiscing about a 'stage' I was in for a couple years when I listened to this quirky band called "Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet".

You might know them from their most famous piece, the intro music to the Canadian, Pythonesque inspired comedy troupe, "The Kids in the Hall"

It's mostly short bursts of guitar riffs and melody with some bass, some percussion, but oddly enjoyable. No vocals other than a line or two randomly in the song

I actually went to see them live in Seattle, about the same time Nirvana and Pearl Jam were making Seattle a music scene to be.
