This whole "Optical Illusion" thing sent me on an hour long Internet surfing adventure, and WOW, there are so many cool things I wanted to post, but you've probably "seen em all". Nevertheless, here's a video I hope you all enjoy:

Great find LovinDa, powerful illusion. I know what you mean about surfing adventures -- it can suck time away, but there's lots of cool stuff out there.

Here's another non-optical illusion video, but the visual element is a kick nonetheless. This guy decided to take a quick stroll along the Caminito del Rey sans the usual gear.

The man who filmed the videos, Daniel Ahnen, was killed the next year when he fell into a deep glacial crevasse while filming an expedition in the Indian Himalayas (5/17/11).

^ Clever stuff... I think? Look I'm not saying I'm dumb or anything... I can almost follow what's going on in the game "Mousetrap", but I can't look at this long before blood starts coming out of my ears. I better just stick to what I already know about processing blue-balls.

Moving back to illusions...


The two monsters look different in size but they are identical.

Assuming size constancy, our visual system estimates the size of any object as follows: retinal size multiplied by the assumed distance. Thus, the two monsters, though identical drawings, look quite different in their differing contexts.

And also interestingly, doesn’t the lower left monster, the one being pursued, have a particularly horrid grin on its face, while the soon-to-be-successful pursuing monster, by way of being much more massive, wears a gruesome, satisfied smile?

It's hard to convince the brain that objects, like the monsters, are the same size when other contextual cues are powerful. This picture of three cars has been around a while -- I once measured them.


Someone used a video to demonstrate they are the same size.



Shading can fool the brain, too.

Well, I did read this:
The angle of the dangle is inversely proportional to the heat of the meat, provided that the maxis of the axis, and the gravity of the cavity, remain constant. In algebra, the angle of the dangle (x) is necessary to find y (the heat of the meat) provided tht the maxis of the axis (graphing in y=mx+b) and the gravity of the cavity (solving inequalities) remain constant.
