I didn't have the time to comment , but I was really impressed with the band relative to lola. There were just too many musiciaans and it was tricky with both Dada and Notto on stage. Both of them seem like very polite guys and I think that led to both of them playing second fiddle and a bit of confusion.

I suspect that if you were there in person you would have heard haley's voice much more relative to the band than on the recording at the marathon. I didn't look that carefully at the speakers but I bet you were too far forward to get the cone from some larger speakers that were mixed with a lot more voice from Haley.

I thought the band showed more restraint in places to allow Haleys voice to be more front and center while at the same time had places to show off their personal musical talents in ways that kept the songs pumping in a way you want especially for a live performance.

I really enjoyed that performance of wasted tears relative to other performances of it and the album version (only listend to it twice though). I liked what the drummer and Courtney at the bass did to have it move with a better sense of energy and less of a canned sort of beat.

^ A lot of what Tom said I agree with...my Cliff Notes summary (do they still make those, or am I dating myself?) is that the band was a lot tighter in Philly than at Lolla...

I heard that after you pointed it out and you're right! It fits the mood of the song and she recovered well from it and didnt seem too embarrased

It sounded to me like the band is getting to do a little more with their parts in the song. I hear new interpretation of the notes on the guitar or bass sometimes, sort of like Keith seemed to be already doing...adding little flourishes.

Also, is it me or is the drumming ..... 'snappier'? it had 'character', I don't know how to describe it. I noticed it the first time on the video of "Oh My" on iHeart radio. The drumming there really felt more dynamic, like it moved the song along and wasn't just keeping a beat



I didn't especially notice the drums when Breezy played...if I remember, my opinion when he was added was that the drums tended to be ..... splashy...lot's of cymbals (Or maybe that was when Courtney stepped in on drums). I never noticed the drums really 'adding' to the performance

Maybe the 'tighter' you're sensing is the tightening up of the drums. We've been hearing Keyboards, Guitar and bass.....Up 'til recently the drums have been an afterthought.

BTW Buzz..not quite fair to compare a fan camcorder video to a post-produced professionally made video like the one in Minnesotta
I would have loved...and expected, a professionally produced video of her performances in Chicago at Lolla, but for some reason, they didn't do it, so.........

Yeah, I was afraid my post might sound like I was comparing professional to fancam after I posted it. I wanted to make sure I emphasized the extraordinary efforts you and others went through to make the Lolla videos...which we all appreciate so much. I guess the main point I was trying to make is that the Lolla set-up was not conducive for any type of recording, and the whole Haley performance was diminished because of this. It was a performance that was probably best seen live. It would have taken a dedicated effort by professionals to have made a good video with excellent audio in that setting.

I think we all can conclude that we got the best video possible under the circumstances, because so many Haliens stepped up to the plate. You did good T-Man...I was just chiming in with my opinion on the Lolla performance compared to other venues. I've liked the smaller venues for video and audio...fancam or professional...is the Buzz making any sense, or is it time for my meds.

I think that's more a function that Haley being that unique voice that will always sound infinitely better in a small venue with minimal musical accompaniment, than it is about anything else. Haley is the 'un Katy Perry' or 'un JLow'....she doesn't need the bells and whistles to mask/enhance her vocal....
