Cherelann, I agree that Casey seems to be fully present when he's making music -- or, at least, now that he's out of the pressure cooker of the Idol machine. And what a "music maker" he is. I've always thought the song "L.O.V.E." to be a silly thing, but Casey's rendition here is just a delight! He demonstrates his jazz chops, he didn't constrict his throat, so his singing is a much better than it is when he's trying affects such as grunting or growling. And, then, at the end, when he does the little "cantina?" riff from Stars Wars. How fun!

Stuff like that makes me a little wistful and miss (a bit) being actively involved in making music.

It's a nice low key version ... I do appreciate both Haley and Casey's ability to be able to deliver their songs without the 'bells and whistles' and still keep the melodic essence.

He does seem to be most dynamic when he's with his bass

I hope he's watching his health during his touring, it can be a grind after awhile, I'm sure...

Hmmm .. . So Casey has yet another, new toy to turn his attentions to until he feels comfortable with it, which given how gifted he is, shouldn't be long. I wonder if he'll play it at Carnegie?

On second thought, looking at the picture more, it looks like he might be in a store just checking things out. But he likes it: "coolest thing, ever!"

It's a "mando - bass" -- a hybrid of the double bass (stand up bass) and mandolin.

Excellent observation, Dr. J. I wonder why/what it is about mandolin that captures him.

Jerry Garcia loved the Madolin ... maybe it's particularly good for polyrythms? more "pickable" than a guitar?

^^^Perhaps, but much harder to sustain a specific tone (without constant picking). I suspect it's the player's ability to that (a quickness) that makes a good player.
