Merry Christmas to Miguel, all the Haliens who visit this site and especially those who contribute their insightful and often hilarious commentary. I don't post very often but to those who do, know that your participation is appreciated.

Regarding the topic of Haley's career bump, I also agree that it is for the best but I think her LU experience and contacts will serve her well in the next phase of her career. I also agree that her career challenges will make her stronger and better in the end. I just hope the rest of the world discovers SOON the amazing talent we already know of.

I have come to think that it is a good thing that time will naturally distance her from the AI tag... That more of her potential audience will be open to listening to her music and not dismiss her as someone who just covers other songs.

Her recognition as a performer and songwriter have been acknowledged by most critics and professionals in the business who have met her or worked with her, that recognition will come with the public too...in the mean time...

In Vegas, IMO, it was ther covers of HOTRS, BATJ and "Oh Darlin'" as well as her Jazz (and Duffy) covers that got the most rousing response from a Vegas crowd, most who probably didn't even know who she was, but was interested to find out after hearing her interpretations of those songs .

"Making it her own" is an overused cliche to we "Reality Singing Competition" viewers, but is definitely apt to Haley's ability to mold the tenor and effect of the song to make it undeniably Haley.

It might have been her first "breakout cover" on AI, but noone covers BATJ the way Haley does. I remember the big smiles of some in the Vegas audience as they sang along with Haley as she pulverised the choruses of that song with her big voice

I agree that Haley really shines singing the covers you mention and I think they will always be part of her fan appeal. That said, I think too much identification with singing covers vs new original material will really limit her POTENTIAL audience. I acknowledge that this opinion comes from my bias of enjoying new music so much more than covers. I am constantly frustrated when radio ruins a song with overplay. I listen to Haley so much more than usual, but I have concluded it is her voice & style above everything else that is appealing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm certain Haley's originals will be what puts her on the map. I'm just not one that views the AI connection as necessarily that bad. It seems that Haley, herself, continues to speak of her appreciation of it.
(Eventually having her own identity will certainly happen, just that AI will always be a chapter in her career)

She will always be tied to Idol. I agree with the stigma part, but she knows burning bridges in the entertainment industry is not a smart move, plus she has made a lot of great contacts as a result of being on the show - she would have never done that had she not been on the show.
