I think [at age] 15 or 16. Whenever high school started, I never once thought, "Yeah, I think I'm going to go to college and do a different career!" I told my mom flat out, "I'm not going, I just want to do music." And from there is when I started booking shows and traveling around. I didn't have a car, so my best friend would drive me and we would go on little road trips. It was really cool. Then I moved to L.A. straight after high school, like a month after high school. I started working all the bad jobs, doing everything you normally do, and saving to record, and recording, and saving more. It's been a long process.

At what point did you notice things were finally picking up?

I had done this bigger, hyped-up record or whatever that didn't turn into anything. It was the stereotypical musician story where they kind of screwed me over. Then I went on tour and came back and started recording in my friend's bedroom. Then the people from 'One Tree Hill' called me and said, "Can we use this song for our show?" And I was like, "This song? The one in the bedroom? Um, yeah you can use the song!" So when that happened and other TV shows started picking things up, I was like, wow! It was awesome, because it was all the stuff I had done on my own without anyone telling me, "Oh, this is gonna be a big deal!"
