Also cool to see the relationships she has built meant that she can still tap the talent even after being dropped by the label.

It's steady on with Haley. She wasn't afforded the rewards of overnight success with her album or her journey with American Idol. She has had to fight for every inch of ground up to this point. she is gaining character stamina and endurance. and building a reputation with the media and also with people that are affiliate with the music industry. Thanks Babbs for sharing the news confirming how Haley’s music process is getting or will get financed. It can be a puzzle to me and still is to a certain extent. I have enjoyed everyone’s insight into this music business. Himm2, love the Harry e-mail edits.

Haley’s talent, character and work ethic have enabled her to develop strong relationships in the business that are and will serve her well. I feel she has laid down a strong foundation that will support a successful and lasting career. She just needs the right opportunity to fall into place and it will.

Just heard this after my post. I don’t know if this has already been mentioned or not. Allen Stone was on Live From Daryl’s House and Daryl asked Allen how he was able to finance his music without a recording company. Allen said that the producers did it as a “Spec Deal”. Daryl said “Good for them.” The same thing Harry talked about.

What is a "Spec Deal"?
1. Definition of Terms.
(a) "Spec" deals are "speculation" deals. The concept of the deal is that somebody is providing a product or service for less than they would normally charge for it. In other words, they are investing time in the hopes of a return on their investment.

(b) Two types of spec deals are common in the music business: the producer spec deal and the studio spec deal.

(i) Producer Spec Deal. In a producer spec deal, the producer will produce one or more master recordings for a recording artist either for no fee or for a very low fee. The producer will then hope to (I) participate in the revenue from the sales of the masters he produced; and (II) if the artist gets a record deal, get the opportunity to producer one or more albums for the artist under their record deal for a customary fee and royalty.

(ii) Studio Spec Deal. The studio spec deal is similar to the producer spec deal. The studio will allow the artist to record one or more masters in the studio at little or no cost. The studio will then hope to (I) participate in the revenue from the sales of the masters produced in the studio; and (ii) if the artist gets a record deal, have one or more albums recorded in the studio at full or premium rates.

© It is important to note that, whether you are the producer, studio or the artist, all of the material points of the deal should be set forth in a written agreement. This prevents a dispute over either party's rights in the future. The cost of documenting the agreement in writing will be far less than the cost of resolving a legal dispute between the parties if there is no written agreement.

MAE, it sounds to me like Haley needs to get together with some of her song writing buddies & share some chips & guacamole...the hard part is getting the radio stations to spin the record. All Haley needs is radio play & that seems to be the elusive part thus far.

Ha! Well good guac and chips could be starting point for a lot of stuff. Perhaps, dropping off fresh guacamole and chips, along with Haley's newest single (whatever that might be) at radio stations is the way to get her songs played on air ...

I will say, that in this day and age, I'm absolutely stunned that radio still exists, and then to have it still be the key to the "success" of a song is even more mind boggling.

Personally, I wish that Haley could write her songs completely on her own (without need of her song writing buddies). I don't know -- she seems like a gregarious person (in the good sense, folks), and, perhaps, thrives on the collaborative aspect, but she'd reap more financial benefit if she DIH (did it herself).
