I told her I couldn't believe my luck and she quoted me the Campbell quotes. I enjoy mythology she enjoys philosophy and Campbell is a little bit of both

Well (and you've been asking this question in various ways for the past few weeks) there are those who don't believe in accidents/coincidences. (There's a book written entitled There Are No Accidents that's completely about synchronicity -- I did read it; can't say I found it to be 100% convincing, but it posits some interesting ideas.) Obviously, Haley's ethos "everything happens for a reason" veers into that synchronous territory without being that explicit.
Joseph Campbell -- what an extraordinary man and mind! He was an amazing mythologist and no slouch as a philosopher. If you haven't read his Masks of God, Tusk, I'd recommend that you do. Campbell is to mythology/religion/philosophy what Jared Diamond is to -- well, just about every other discipline.

RE: "Oh My" and Felix Hernandez
Me and Joseph Campbell go way back. Been reading mythologies since I was a young'un. and compared Haley's Journey to Campbell's the Hereo's Journey long ago on IDF, then again at HF's
(We also studied him in literature)
It's just I never thought of him as a 'philosopher' until I had that discussion with my friend.
BTW on the one hand, I tend to believe in 'fate' or determinism, on the other, I would like to believe there is always choice, You determine your path, your life is what YOU make it.
So it's a conflict for me

Silly me! Yes, I now remember that you've mentioned Campbell and your comparison of Haley and the Hero's Journey (which, for me, was a bit of a stretch). And, I suspect that choice plays a far greater part than "determinism" -- at least, in our day and age.

RE: "Oh My" and Felix Hernandez
It has all the points of the heroes journey including the companion's sacrifice (Casey's elimination/save when she was still vulnerable to be eliminated)... anyways it was just an exercise to keep conversation going during the slow times.
What is difficult about Determinism is it goes against our idea of self-worth that consciousness affords us, our place in the Galaxy. If I understand correctly, You can replay a moment in time with all things being equal, there would be no circumstance that would cause one to make a different choice. The Universe is linear, cause and effect. Was it Einstein that said something like "God doesn't play dice"
But then there are the quantum physicists who posit an infinite number of planes of existence, each one 'slightly' different from the next.. implying all things are possible.....
Is there a universe where I bought my own Carnegie ticket, didn't ask Haley-Holic to do it for me, and never got to sit in front of the Reinharts? I feel sorry for that Tusk
The Catholics have it solved by saying that it is true that God has a plan, BUT his gift is the gift of choice/"Free Will". So fated, but not
Do we live in a universe of destiny or chance? or both? Does one supersede the other or are they harmonious, we just don't understand the rules ?

RE: "Oh My" and Felix Hernandez
Haven't heard back yet from the M's (the idea was for an ad campaign to pair "Oh My" with Felix, not necessarily about tomorrow's game)
But I used my new "Twitter Powers" ( LOL) to let Ole know. I wondered if royalties and rights might be an obstacle, (how much the M's would have to pay to use it etc... ), but it seems that, at least Ole is ok with it ...
Quote:Tusk @HaleysTusk 22 May
@olemajorlyindie I'm trying to get Seattle Mariners to use @HaleyReinhart Oh My with Perfect Game Felix Hernandez. I hope they consider it
Quote:ole (oh-lay) @olemajorlyindie 8h
@HaleysTusk Cool! Good Luck!
Now just waiting on the M's (They are doing their annual spiraling out of contention now, so their PR department is going to have to work overtime anyways )
*And I still know this is a long shot....but hell, why not?

I don't need confirmation, if I wake up one day, turn on the TV and hear Haley singing "Oh My" as Felix sizzles in a fastball strike out...that would be confirmation enough
I would be more excited at the game tomorrow if they hadn't just lost 6 games after taking 2 of 3 at Yankee Stadium
(Them doing poorly, IMO, means the chances increase ever so slightly of doing it as the Mariners will be looking for ways to distract fans from the product on the field and find ways of highlighting their SuperStar .... at least that's what I'm counting on, unfortunately )
In Fantasy land, it would be kind of cool if the M's call Ole about using OM for Felix and they say, "yah we've heard it discussed ...." LOL
