Uhmmm - I can't believe that I'm the only one who thinks that Haley's success should be determined by Haley, not what her so called "fans" think.
Please, people, let this talented young woman take on this complicated world on her (should I say HER?) terms, not our expectations.
The fact that there is probably an enormous overlap should be sufficient.

RE: The New Year (2014) and Halien reflections
I'm not sure, rmd's implying what he wants her to do, rather what he hopes her career path will be. Of course, Haley will go where her instincts lead her, if we've learned anything in the time we've known of her, she apparently doesn't always follow the well traveled path...
He was expressing his wish for her, not what he expects her to do, or am I misreading your post?

Perhaps I misinterpreted what rmd said but here's the quote I was referring to:
Quote:what do we want as success for Haley?
I guess you saw that as a "wish/hope," but I guess I saw heightened awareness expectations (not sure why) which is the way I interpreted it.
Again, there's probably a great deal of overlap, but I don't want Haley to deal with any pressures other than her own expectations and that which revolves around the music making she's doing.
And, oh, there's a pretty sunset tonight.

Since I was quoted above in MAE's post all I'd like to say is that my interpretation of rmd's post was the same as Miguel's. I don't think anyone wants to impose their career plans on Haley.
(Also, Miguel, I had a feeling you would be creating a new thread for these posts. Thanks for keeping things tidy. Hee hee.)

Thanks for the comments on my post, and just to clarify…
I meant my post to pose the question: as fans, what we would see or want as “success” for Haley? Because as I note, in my view, she is already a success. Of course, I would not pretend to know how Haley feels right now about things. But, one thing I love about her is her positive and sunny attitude. She seems to live by: “Happiness does not come from having the best of everything, but making the most of everything you have.”
The rest of the post was more of a wish list (wish “Listen Up” had been a bigger hit) and a hope list (that she gets signed with a good label, releases many CDs in different genres, tours a lot more, and has a long career). So, my post was not meant to be about about setting expectations for her, but just one fan’s view on her success to date, and a wish and hope list. So, sorry if that was misunderstood by some. But, in the end, I just want Haley to achieve her goals and dreams, and on her terms, but hopefully, those include having a long career in which we can continue to enjoy and appreciate this amazingly talented young woman.

RE: The New Year (2014) and Halien reflections
^^rmd, thank you for the clarification and I apologize for misinterpreting your intent . I rather frequently see statements here that bend my head in unpleasant ways -- all well-intended, but perhaps not thought through like the writer meant, most especially me .
I grew up knowing someone who, talentwise was probably a hybrid of Haley and Casey (a glorious voice and incredible performer/ entertainer [Haley] and the ability to play anything she laid her hands/mouth on/to [Casey]) and could write anything she needed, a woman who worked her tail off to excel musically and with parents very supportive -- up to the point when she graduated from college, when "teaching" was the only thing her parents found acceptable. I understand why. I think she understood why, but I know that there was, at least, a sense of frustration, and, perhaps, anger for her for a good many years. That, too, was understandable.
Thus, perhaps, I, perhaps, get overly concerned when I see some of the remarks I see about what "we think" she should be doing. As much as I want "jazz Haley," and like KayPea's "ideal world," I know that Haley needs to do is first to establish her career in the direction that she wants.
Fortunately, for us "jazzbos" she throws some fairly frequent bones.
