RE: Next album will be blusier
OK…a new CD is coming. YAY! Below are some ideas/suggestions from me. MY HUMBLE OPINION!!!
• On her next CD, I hope she tones down the pinup/sexy look of “Listen Up”. Now, obviously, being a guy, I LOVED the cover art etc for LU, but I think it might have held her back in a way. That CD deserved so much more respect as a pop masterpiece and I wonder if that cover art made it appear too lightweight. So, for CD number 2, maybe a more mature look…
• She has said that she wants to go back to her rock and roll roots for an “edgier” sound on the next CD. I think the one issue many people had with LU was that there was not enough of the growling rocker that people loved on Idol. So, I hope she taps into that vein much more on the new CD. More songs like “Keep Coming Back” and even “Spiderweb”.
• I really like “My Cake” and “Better” and hopefully those will really shine via studio production. I loved what she did with “My Cake” at Buffalo Grove, turning it into almost a jazzy jam tune ala Grateful Dead or Traffic.
• Although Haley is quite a songwriter, I hope she is open to singing other people’s songs and is not in a box of “I won’t sing a song unless I wrote or co-wrote it.” If a great song comes along, I hope she considers it.
• I think she should do at least two covers on the CD, one hopefully “Black Velvet” which has been discussed. And, I wonder how she would do with a song like the Burt Bacharach classic “The Look of Love”. I think she would KILL that song with her swinging sultry voice.
• I think “Black Velvet” (if on the CD) should be the first single, only just to get her back on the radio.
• Given the long legs of “Undone” (around the world!), I would think she would consider another ballad or two.
Anyway, these are just MY SUGGESTIONS on the next CD AND I am not setting Expectations! I am sure I will love whatever she does and just hope something happens soon! My last suggestion: Get OUT ON THE ROAD with a FULL BAND! That is all….

I have to say, I think "My Cake" might have a chance to be one of Haley's first 'signature' songs that isn't a cover....
(Undone, not withstanding )
I mean, it is THE song that she can do anything with. She can drop some insane scat with it, she can let her musicians free style with it, it just finds it's groove and settles into it's comfort zone, allowing Haley and her musicians to feel their way into the song, catch it's vibe that night, that performance....
Still, loooove her scat in this, so groovy
better audio
Keith and Brandon, bringing the funk to the Haley festivities
Rock and Roll, 'nuff said
Just pure 'Mutha effin' awesomeness
Ironically, when I first heard it live @Citywalk, I didn't know what to think, it felt .... "unformed"... but now that I've seen what she's done w/ it, purposefully making it musically 'malleable' (fun with alliteration ), creating a 'jam song' that gets everybody involved.... I really, really it
Unfortunately, one of THE best performances I've seen live of My Cake was at the LA party; Haley, Harry and Keith tore into the groove like crazy... Maybe someday

I agree, Himm. Buffalo Grove Days was a wonderful, wonderful experience. When I am old and gray (I guess that time isn't really that far off), I will think back on those days in Wheeling with fondness. What a great time we had!
PS: I also love 'My Cake'. It would be cool to hear a studio version on Did You Listen Yet?
