I'm really beginning to think her nature is to always look on the bright side of things, I doubt that 'cutting ties' is what she would do. It's that side of her personality that hopefully affords her more and fruitful opportunities in the future, leaving options open
My interpretation is that she had already made plans to do the shoot and felt that had priority over what she might have thought was just a 'fun night' (AI) without considering the opportunities that may present themselves for promotion of, maybe the video, or her future plans and network for opportunity potential...
Someone probably just presented perspective, put it in it's context as a promotion opportunity, especially if things are really going to start moving forward in the near future
Tusk, while I agree with most of your scenario above, you can't seriously just be Quote:really beginning to think her nature is to always look on the bright side of things
. Just now -- seriously???

That's true. And if she was strongly advised by Idol to attend, they might've said something to the effect that if she wants the opportunity to perform any of her new material on the show &/or receive any other type of media exposure from the show in future.. like the quick footage they showed of her in the hometown visit this year, her songs used behind scenes in various shows etc... There's a better chance of that happening if she attends the finale & shows her support.
That media exposure means a lot to an up & coming artist trying to establish themselves, so I don't think she'd want to throw it away. Honestly, I imagine we'll see a few shots of her in the audience and that's it. Maybe, she'll get 30sec on air if Ryan goes out into the audience to talk to a few former Idols.
If it was her new mgmt co that strongly advised her to attend, it was probably because they don't want her to pass up the free media exposure. Being seen on prime-time national television, is valuable, even if it's just for a few seconds.
So, a lot of what Merc & Tusk just said.

LOL.... who said Idol advised anything? I know this is a Haleycentric forum, but I really have a hard time believing that Idol was making any kind of suggestion to what's good for her future to her.....
I think this is truly 'it is what it is'.... She was invited, as an Idol alumnist, that's no surprise. She told some people... Maybe her parents, Chiara was there, so she's a possibility, or others that she knows in LA....They discussed pro's and con's and with some urging, She realized it was an opportunity she shouldn't miss
Soon we'll be saying Simon Cowell called her from England, "Haley Daaarling, Randy said you weren't going to the Idol finale.... let me tell you, you should definitely go..."

Rachael never say never, I think you are and will always be a great asset on social media for Haley. I don't technically follow you on twitter because I don't have an account, but I do check often . Who knows where your hard work will lead??

Yeah OK OK, Your scenario sounds far more likely.
No one said it was Idol for sure. That's why I used the word "IF"
My thinking was that the Idol franchise is hurting some right now &, if a lot of their former contestants (especially the more prominent ones) were deciding to pass on showing up for the finale, they might try to sway them by saying something like that..... Simon Cowell Geez, you're such a smart alec sometimes.

Trust me I've my fair share of dumb alec moves too
Lol. Your thinking on this was good though. One way I interpreted "Strongly Advised".. sort of a threat. Rather than just the people around her saying, "What're you crazy. Go to the finale and promote yourself as much as you can."
Actually, I remember last year when she went to the finale, she got quite a bit of exposure on the red carpet. I think she & Casey sang Moanin' outside didn't they? And I also remember her twitter following bumped up a couple thousand because of it.

Does this reflect a growing affiliation with songwriters and people associated with the recording industry, and a loosening of her personal identification with American Idol? That would be a natural progression in her career, but it also suggests she doesn't view ties to AI as a vehicle to much of anything. Frankly, I'm surprised that she had decided not to go since it offers the potential for broad exposure. A reminder to the mass audience that she is still in the biz if nothing else.
Great insightful post, John!! I think some of it too is just that she's been looking forward to her 19 contract ending for so long that, once it finally ended, she probably kinda felt like screw that, I've graduated, I'm not going back there... Alumni coming through.
I guess it was the next day she changed her mind? Is that right? So if that's the case then one or more of the people she was with that night, probably talked her into going.
