That's the thing, it didn't end up costing me what you might think....
From the beginning, back in the TVLine days, I'd said I thought the Brits would love Haley, so I 'swore an oath' that IF it ever came to pass that Haley had an opportunity to sing in the UK, I would want to be there....
Since I made that declaration, Haley had taken me to alot of places, I eventually built up enough miles for a free trip any where within the the US. Each opportunity to see Haley outside of LA, I was tempted to use that free trip ticket, but
something inside told me to hold off, that there could be an even
more special event
When it was learned Haley might join PMJ on their European tour, I did something I had not done before, ask Harry for a
favour. I asked Harry that if he heard anything about when Haley might be joining PMJ in Europe, to give me a heads up. I was hoping Paris, Nice or London were my choices, as I had relatives in each city.... At the time, it was a pipe dream if I was willing to spend the large amount of money to see Haley w/ PMJ, but I could feel less guilty if I doubled up the trip to make it also about visiting relatives
Harry finally replied with a range of dates, not specifics, but possibilities. The stops included Paris, Nice and London, but still they were not certainties that Haley would be there. I still wasn't sure I was willing to spend the money it would take to fly, but I figured to investigate what the going rate was. I usually go with Orbitz to book stuff, it was looking like the cost was going to be in the $2k+ range.
Then I remembered the mileage I'd built up. I called the carrier I was with to check, just in case.... To my surprise and pleasure, the date Haley would perform in London, the dates I needed landed in a week where for some reason, the price plummeted for a round trip to England
The agent who was assisting me had rarely seen that trip be so cheap, she exclaimed she might take that trip too... It would take 80% of the miles I'd accrued and only $200! (Turns out the shuttle trip to and from Heathrow airport to London cost almost as much
)
That the hotel I stayed was one boat ride away from the O2 (eliminating the need to rent a car, learn how to drive on the other side of the street)... it was like someone was laying a carpet, opening the door for my trip to the UK... I had no choice but to take it.
And what a decision.... I got to go back stage hang out w/ Haley, Casey and PMJ, met Anders Grahn, Scott Bradlee, Morgan James and Ariana Savalas for the first time... Posting "Creep" O2 kickstarted a growth that would then ride the viral sensation that would be PMJ's "Creep" video resulting in 2015 seeing my views grow over six times what it had been the previous two years
