Board Acting Weird?
A user sent me a private message saying they couldn't find a post they had made. I had actually been reading that post and included a link to it in my reply. The user couldn't access the link. When I checked the link myself I no longer could either.
I also noticed a post I had made in the Lollapalooza thread disappeared. I was able to hit "back" on the browser window to retrace my steps and get to it, but I was unable to "edit" the post because it didn't exist.
Here's a screen capture of that post:

Anyone else experiencing similar things?
My webhost had problems with its upstream provider and abruptly moved all the sites they host to a new server. They sent out this message this morning:
"Please login as soon as possible using the details below to make sure everything has been migrated across smoothly - let us know as soon as possible if you notice any issues at all."
So this issue might be related to the server move.

RE: Board Acting Weird?
This thread had disappeared after I responded to Tusk.
Now it's back, minus my response.
Another thread I created last night before going to bed is missing.
The host suggests:
Quote:As we begun migration on Monday and changed our nameservers yesterday, it could be due to discrepencies in being moved across.
If you want, you can backup your database on the old server and restore it on the new server so that you get the latest posts transferred across.
I've responded and now await their response.
eta:
They haven't stated as much, but their offer to restore the old database would indicate they believe the database was corrupted in the move. If we simply restore an old database then posts made recently will be lost.
eta 2:
They have now stated they will look into merging the two databases.
I received a prompt response in which they helpfully pointed me at directions on the forum software site about how to merge two databases.
My response:
"I didn't expect opening a support ticket to create work for me and necessitate my learning new skills."

It's always something, isn't it?

RE: Board Acting Weird?
They replied they would do it if I so desired but explained: Quote:The reason it is preferable that you do it is the process requires us to make several decisions about what to merge.
They point the finger at the new numerical address for the server not having fully propagated among all of the domain name servers (DNS) on the Internet as being the most likely cause of the problem (there are two nearly identical databases being accessed - one on the old server and one on the new server).
I'm not sure about that. But if they are correct it should rectify itself and begin functioning properly (accessing only one of the databases) soon.
If that's the case, I won't try to merge the databases. The process seems like too much trouble to recover a small number of lost posts.
However, if the problem does persist, let me know so I can take corrective action.

I've deleted several spambot registrations this morning. I get 25-30 a day, typically in two waves.
Just deleted another one:

Yah the way they put having YOU do the merge would make me pause about doing it too...as if to say, let him screw it up, plausable deniability
