Haley in LA at SkyBar - December 11th, 2012 - riley - 12-09-2012 Note from Miguel: I split posts from the Vegas thread to form this one. Admission is TOY + $10 or $20 (no toy). I've had the pleasure of seeing Haley live five times now, (if you count this weekend as two nights), and she has never sounded better. I want Haley to sing whatever makes her happy, but as an old guy and a jazz fan I truly enjoyed the jazz sets. Song For My Father actually got me misty eyed. She is always amazing live. I asked her when her next LA gig is, and she said Tuesday. I said "This Tuesday, like in three days?" , and she said yes. It's at a place called the Skybar, I need to research this a little. I asked her why it hasn't been posted on her site, and she and Chiara looked at each other and then said that things will be improving regarding her site. Thanks for sharing the experiences - it make us all Halien's so happy! Wish I could have been there too! (Ice House) Chiara said the the Sky Bar was on Sunset, good call. Never heard of the Whisk Blue. Oh yeah, one other interesting note. I asked Haley if Keith and Courtney would be joining her at the Sky Bar, or will it just be her and John. She said Keith and Courtney will not be there, and......a very good friend of Chiara named Phil will be subbing for John. I didn't inquire further, but makes you go hmmmmm. RE: Haley in Las Vegas - December 6th, 7th, 8th - Miguel - 12-09-2012 Hard to get a feel for Skybar. The place has been around for fifteen years or longer. Preliminary research shows it's atop the Mondrian hotel and not an easy place for the public (non-guests) to gain access. Their website says, "Guest List Only, Daily 8 PM to 2 AM" As a result, the crowd is likely to be small. A review from 12/4 (a week prior to Haley's appearance): Quote:The place is beautiful but it's too stuffy and the service was awful and slow. And it was empty!! Excerpt from review in October: Quote:I started coming here not too long ago when I found out that my concierge at the Foundation Room across the street could escort us in. And I do enjoy it quite a bit... Another excerpt from an October review by an attorney: Quote:The last two times that i have arranged for a client to stay at Mondrian hotel, and meet me at sky bar the evening before a court date, I have encountered the same horrible experience. Its the middle of the week, the hotel is less than half occupied, and Sky Bar has maybe 20 people at most. The guy at the door has 100 questions. Who am I here to see, where is the 'hotel guest' I am visiting... Excerpt from an August review: Quote:He refused to let us in unless we tipped him. We let him know we had no problem with getting a table and he insisted that all of us tip him $25.00 each for a total of $100.00 to get in and he said "then we can talk about accommodating you." Yet the place has 271 reviews and a 3-1/2 star rating. http://www.yelp.com/biz/skybar-at-mondrian-west-hollywood?q=show Many people have clearly enjoyed it. And from January to April of this year they hosted free shows "The Mondrian Sessions." Excerpt from review related to that: Quote:Sure enough, there was no cover. Once inside I got a drink. A lot more than I wanted to pay but not much more than I expected to pay. The place itself is pretty cool... My opinion: If you think you might want to attend, give it a go. This isn't a busy time of year for the hotel industry. Tuesday is usually the slowest night for restaurants and clubs. And it's not summer when that Hollywood rooftop with a pool is the hottest place to be ($600 bottle service!). Be prepared though that cocktails might run you around $20. Maybe it is called the Midnightblue ![]() RE: Haley in Las Vegas - December 6th, 7th, 8th - yanni5 - 12-09-2012 She mentioned something about it being a charity event and something about bringing a gift for the charity. That's what I wanted to research. After drinks last night, as she was leaving, she walked up to me and shook my hand, and said "See you Tuesday" But your posts Miguel don't sound encouraging. Thanks for the heads up. No, no, you should go. Like I said, the holidays are a dead period for hotels (they depend on business travelers) and Tuesday is dead for bars. Plus, this is a charity event. That means the hotel isn't running it. They're just the venue. So it's likely open to everyone to attend. "Bringing a gift" for charity around the holidays is usually a Toys for Tots thing. December 6: Quote: Fergie hosted the star-studded Voli Light Vodka cocktail party Thursday night to benefit Cell Phones For Soldiers at Skybar at the Mondrian in Los Angeles. The vodka brand donated 500,000 minutes to the charity, and Fergie, who co-owns Voli Light Vodka, presented the organization with a check at the party. |
