RE: American Idol 2014 - john - 02-21-2014 ^Ouch! RE: American Idol 2014 - Himm2 - 02-21-2014 (02-20-2014, 08:31 PM)mercfan3 Wrote: Woah..I got all the girls I wanted in the top 13 (Plus Kristen. I don't dislike her, but I find her boring.)I think there's only one guy that is marketable. I'm voting again for the first time since season 10. I've latched on to Kristen as my chosen one and she's getting trashed on message boards just like Haley did. I'm not just voting for her voice and musical talents... It's not even about her fabulous looks... I admire her for her high quality outlook on life... getting a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing... becoming a registered nurse... helping to heal people and give patients a reason to be happy. The brains and dedication it takes to get to that position is very admirable. I wish I had a daughter with those incredible qualities. And now she's a centerpiece on the biggest stage in Reality Talent Competitions. How can I not give my full dedication to support this wonderful role model for the world? Yeah-WGWGs-and girls with pianos, etc. and a lot of them seem to bring along original songs that they must think are gonna let them standout,That might be OK on paper but some of these songs are just-well. RE: American Idol 2014 - buzzenator - 02-21-2014 Did anyone else notice that Harry Connick Jr. is becoming the American version of Simon Cowell? I enjoyed his expertise and lively sense of humor in the audition stages, but his tendency to go for the jugular so early in the season reminds me of Simon. This is one reason I think The Voice is gaining on Idol, they don't shoot their own. Idol still unleashes the "Dawgs" on its own cast of people they selected as the "incredible talent we have this year". It seems counter productive to the process of gathering the best of 75,000 contestants, then to criticize their ability on national TV. What does this say about the judges and their ability to select the best? We all know, too well, the hyper-critical comments directed at Haley that were not justified, simply because certain judges had an alternative agenda...rather than creating a unbiased platform for letting America decide. ![]() And Jlo...she hasn't changed her wicked witch routine..."I really want this for you" (then the zinger comes), or (first the zinger, then the muted praise) "it was a nice performance though". You can still see her same style of undermining the contestant with all her platitudes. Haleylvr4evr you should post a picture of you doggie. ![]() Buzz, Harry is definitely taking the critical route, but he doesn't seem as nasty as Simon was - I hope he doesn't blatantly play favorites like Simon did either!! Himm, I really like Kristen as well, I love nurses too!! You have to have a giant heart to help people like that. I think she could really do well. RE: American Idol 2014 - john - 02-21-2014 Quote:Elsewhere on Thursday, Fox’s American Idol Top 13 reveal (9.2 mil and a 2.4) was down 10 and 20 percent week-to-week, hitting an all-time demo low and drawing its smallest audience since Season 1 (7/24/2002). UPDATE: Yes, Idol was bested by a Big Bang repeat in their shared half hour (8.8 mil/2.3 vs. 10.1 mil/2.6)…. Rake (4 mil/1.0) slipped one tenth in the demo…. ABC’s The Taste finale was steady at 3.2 mil/0.9.http://tvline.com/2014/02/21/ratings-rake-american-idol-top-13-winter-olympics/ RE: American Idol 2014 - mercfan3 - 02-21-2014 I've actually warmed up to JLO a little. I think she's been nice, but made some critical comments when needed. (Telling Spencer she liked him, but thinking the song choice wasn't the best for him.) I think it's the judges job to direct you to who the best singer/performer is. One of my biggest issues with Idol is that there has seemed to have been different standards for women and men. (Mediocre men versus incredibly talented women.) And although the audience tends to vote in favor of the men, the judges do nothing to discourage that..and actually encourage that. The Voice is different. The Coaches are trying to win themselves. They aren't going to criticize their own contestant. And it makes them a little more unlikeable to criticize others. (Although, maybe not as much with Shakira and Usher. It's really only Christina that has that problem.) I liked Harry better in the lives up until his comments about Emily. That just bothered me. And then he didn't make the same comments towards Alex (and in fact commented on Alex's musicality) after Alex, a young guy, also sang a sexual song. (In fact, one that was more sexual than Emily's.) Idol's sexism has gotten to me. And despite liking every single one of the girls better than every single one of the guys this season, I know we are going to watch girl after girl exit. Majesty might be able to survive the onslaught. And maybe one other. (Season 10 flashback, basically.) My problem with Kristen is I find her a little bland. But I also think a huge part of her problem has been song choice. Both Chasing Pavements and Unconditional did nothing for her. She obviously likes pop, but I'd bet singing more subtle, piano based pop ("Brave" for example) would do a lot for her. She can hit those notes..she's just not as powerful, so reducing the band's volume (which apparently has taken a page out of The Voice's band's book, unfortunately) and picking better songs for her tone. Like I said, I don't dislike her, but of all the girls I think she's the weakest so far. edit: I'll say this for JLO, having an overall talented top 13 has been a staple of her tenure on Idol. When she's not there, there are typically four or five contestants that you wonder how they even made the top 40, and they end up in the top 13. (Simon used to do that for manipulation reasons.) This season doesn't have a standout..incredible talent. But they are all very talented. It's a pattern that follows Jennifer, so I have to think she's part of the reason for it. RE: American Idol 2014 - Tusk - 02-24-2014 3rd week in a row they used Haley as the intro, so I guess it's there for the whole season 13. LOL... I noticed the whining about Haley being in Michael's posts has disappeared too.... finally ![]() Edit: Maybe not, re Haley, next week, Idol will be sharing Reality Check with the Voice ![]() RE: American Idol 2014 - Himm2 - 02-24-2014 It looks like the higher quality contestants have gravitated to the Voice and leaving American Idol behind this season. I really enjoyed the blind auditions tonight. |
