RE: All things Literary & Haley - Swansteel - 01-27-2013 Hey, Tusk, since you added this thread I happen to have a couple of poems that I wrote early on in my Haley appreciation. They aren't great, but they are heartfelt. ![]() The first one goes back almost to the start of things and is called: Golden Girl A golden girl stands Under burning lights In a world so new And large, feeling The gaze of the World. Her body feels Distant and alien Like a stranger's, Only her voice Remains as an Anchor. She feels damp And her heart leaps Within her breast Like a panicked bird, And yet she is Home. Music surrounds her And carries her on, As all true joy is Apt to do. It sets her Free. Pleasure and pain Collide within her Young body and mind, If only her lipstick Didn't cover her Face. Here is another one written a short time after called: Haley (The Smile) There you stand, Haley, boldly facing down a massive world That makes at the ready to knock you down, and you Smile. Fear may claw at your heart and make your lungs heavy, But against the raging attention of a world gone mad you Smile. With dark and sparkling eyes you look at glaring lights and See the ominous eye that connects to a million orbs and still you Smile. What a brave thing you do, allowing your soul to go on view For all to see, where you might fall and instead you Smile. Keep the struggle against forces beyond your control within Your grasp by striving and thriving and always keeping your Smile. The prize ahead of you isn't fame or wealth or the countless Hearts at your command, but that song that reaches out and Makes us all Smile. RE: All things Literary & Haley - Tusk - 01-27-2013 Nice, Thnx Swan ![]() Nice ending to the first one...almost dead pan Quote:If only her lipstick For some reason it reminds me of this famous "Python"ism "And now for something, completely different" ![]() LOL ![]() RE: All things Literary & Haley - Tom22 - 01-28-2013 Oh dear.. I think I am expected to contribute to this thread.. been busy and laid up with the flu between the busyness ... but I'll critique wax poetic myself soon ! lol should be fun RE: All things Literary & Haley - Tusk - 01-29-2013 Got an email from Harry about my poem, Quote: It really takes me back to that moment. We sat there and felt it from the first notes that it would make a splash! Now it's one of her signatures...how nice when life takes a nice turn like that What a thrill it must have been for them to be in the audience and hear the first notes of HOTRS echo through the venue ![]() RE: All things Literary & Haley - My Alter Ego - 01-29-2013 (01-29-2013, 07:54 PM)Tusk Wrote: Got an email from Harry about my poem, I think the word "thrill" must be the perfect way to describe how they must feel regarding their daughter's (or should that be daughters') musical growth/accomplishments and recognition in the past couple -- no make that probably all of her life (and Angie's as well). (And there may be other words as well!) Patti and Harry strike me as such well grounded people. I feel honored that they share their children and themselves with us to the degree that they do. (And there may be other words as well!)This short video shows how thrilled & proud they are of their daughter: and speaking of Brian Logan - Haley's Jazz Band Mentor - this was in our Daily Herald a couple days ago: By District 214 ..Wheeling High School's highly acclaimed Jazz Band captured the Grand Champion Award at the 36th annual Northshore Jazz Festival on Saturday, Jan. 19. Over 80 jazz bands performed at Glenbrook South High School, where the event was hosted. Wheeling also captured a Division I Rating and First Place in Class "AA." Cesar Mendoza, Wheeling High School junior trombonist, was awarded "Best Soloist of the Day," which includes a two-week summer camp scholarship to the Birch Creek Jazz Camp, in Door County, Wis. The Wheeling Jazz Band 2 also earned a Division I Rating. Jesse Villalobos, sophomore trumpet player, earned an "Outstanding Soloist" award. The Wheeling Jazz Bands are directed by Brian Logan http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20130125/submitted/701259691/ RE: All things Literary & Haley - My Alter Ego - 01-30-2013 Well, good for the Wheeling High Jazz band! If I remember correctly, there is a/are friend(s) of Haley's who are in L.A. trying to make it as actors. If that memory is correct, then it suggests to me that Wheeling High has a strong performing arts program. At a time when the economy is tough, the arts programs are generally the first to be cut in schools. Hopefully, Wheeling is not following that trend. Though at the moment... We cant wait till each day ends, We would start it all over, Just to appreciate our friends. As days go on, With many good days gone, We stay strong... Struggle to get along. We've spent so much time together, Yet there's still a long road ahead, Just one summer could change your life, Uncertain where things will be led. I don't know what next year holds, I should just enjoy my days now, The summer won't change things too much, Will stay in touch...some how. ![]() ![]() RE: All things Literary & Haley - Tusk - 02-23-2013 Haley through the looking glass As time marches forward we look to the past The young Wheeling lass, what would she aspire To one day set hearts ablaze, set the music world on fire? How would she do it, to set claim to fame? Would she climb mountain tops, and shout out her name? Would she gather equipment, make electronic din? Or flash bright lights, bold colours, make our heads spin? Yet this unassuming lass, of simple beginnings Cares nothing of pride, of singing show winnings Her hope is to share, the love she has gained, The love of the music her parents ordained They taught her what matters, how to live and love life To always have hope, no matter the strife, With a word and a smile, she can melt a cold heart 'Tis compassion she brings that sets her apart. The love to make music, what she was born for The talent within, so hard to ignore When she opens her heart, she tugs at my soul Brings a tear to my eye, she lessens the toll A gift from beyond, this creature of light She brings joy to the weary, brings hope out of night The lessons she's taught, the music long past of the effect on us all, of the long shadow cast Inspiration comes, from her heroes of old, The songs that they made, the storys they told From "All My Lovin" to Miles Davis' "All Blues" A history of music for Haley to chose... But make no mistake, these old songs long past, aren't what will define her, make her own star last They fuel her ambition, give spark to her song To create beautiful music so we can all sing along My undying thanks, to the universe who made her, She has lifted my heart, made my life all the better, To her songs I can turn, when my feelings are low, Let's all take a seat and watch her light grow....
