For sure.I'd never make across the board assumptions that the main reason they had a dip was because of being on a show.Britney was a failure as a judge on X Factor-she brought very little entertainment value or judging prowess to the show and for the year she was on she was rated number NO.1 by Forbes for the top earning woman in music.
My assumptions are not 'across the board' .... I'm saying these A type personalities are VERY aware of how they are perceived and IMO having something to lose means that you are biased, and therefore makes your critiques less valuable, if not any value at all.

My point is what happens after they leave. In both my examples above, the quotes are about their POST Idol activity. JLo had her best selling singles during Idol too, a lot having to do with being in front of Idol's huge numbers. My comment on Xtina also focused on how she did AFTER her show.

Britney also wasn't overly critical during her run as well. If you read my OP, my point is that they can't be critical in their critiques in fear of chasing potential fans away, furthermore, how much of her 'earning' included the fee she got for being a useless judge?

Steven Tyler is doing OK after Idol too, but then again, like Britney, he was mostly useless during the voting round, came off as the nice judge and was barely critical.... Not being able to be critical means you can't judge honestly.

.... These working celebrity judges, worried about saying something that might turn people against them, are left with throwing out platitudes or useless blather... Not good judging attributes.

I didn't mean to say that you were making across the board assumptions-I was talking about the person who wrote the article.I just thought it was a pretty weak premise to go on.
