RE: Breaking News: Randy Jackson is Leaving American Idol!
bad year for Randy....wasn't he also dropped by Mariah too?
Combined, that's gotta be a whopping reduction in annual salary
(Better let Casey know, Randy'll be hangin' out more often )

RE: Breaking News: Randy Jackson is Leaving American Idol!
I dunno.... I think we've learned that judges who are working and have material to promote make bad judges because they don't want to look bad...
Memo to Stars: Don’t Judge ‘American Idol’
Quote:It’s become Hollywood and the music industry’s favorite new parlor game: star casting reality TV talent competition judges. But with an increasing number of beaten-down A-listers limping away from these judges tables with bruised reputations and dim career prospects—albeit a fair amount richer—and the shows themselves barely seeing a benefit, it may be time to call game over.
...Aguilera left The Voice for the current cycle to focus on her music (she’ll reportedly be back in the fall). That album, Lotus, posted her lowest first-week sales ever. The only single to make any kind of dent from the record, “Your Body,” peaked at a paltry number 34 on the Billboard Hot 100. She suffered through the spate of negative press about her so-called bitchiness and being overweight while judging The Voice presumably so that her music career would benefit when she left. Clearly, that didn't happen.
I think working and successful celebrities are starting to catch onto the sense that the notoriety they get from these shows, may actually negatively impact their primary career..... If they do, they don't want to risk looking bad by alienating an Idol's fan base with a negative critique, it might have real life impact to their careers...
Unbiased, tough love truthfulness would be my first requirement for a 'true' judge.

I don't know-it hasn't hurt J-Lo and it probably gave a boost to Aerosmith at that time.I can't see why it will have any negative affect on Keith Urban's career. It certainly hasn't hurt Adam Levine or Blake Shelton to be on The Voice-and its probably helped Shakira
It remains to be seen how it affects the two divas currently in Idol.Alot of people just don't like divas acting like divas..

In the article I linked to....
Quote:Lopez scored two of the biggest hits of her career—“On the Floor” and “Dance Again”—while judging Idol...
After leaving Idol, Lopez hasn’t had another song hit the Top 20 of the Billboard charts. The two live-action films she starred in, What to Expect When You’re Expecting and Parker, grossed an embarrassing $41 million and $17 million, respectively.
She got a bump from being in front of the huge TV audience, but afterwards, she and Xtina both experienced their career worse numbers....

On the other hand, being on the reality shows mean they have much less control of how they are perceived, which is important to both women.
"Good Music" is subjective, can we say that Lopez' "On the Floor" was one of "the biggest hits of her career" because it was good music?
