RE: Mayfield interviews Haley in academic setting (lengthy) - My Alter Ego - 11-17-2014
Quote:Regarding the interview, my only issue was that Irvin seemed to focus too much on the American Idol experience and not on Haley’s recent work and future plans.
rmd, I had the same reaction. It seemed particularly odd to me since I think that Mayfield was, at the very least, initially "skeptical" of the AI "product."
However, this interview was for students in his a class (or, perhaps, it was open to those in music classes and interested in what Haley had to say) and maybe that's what the students were interested in hearing about. (Conversely, maybe it was Mayfield's way of letting his students know that the AI experience may not really be as "easy and glamorous" as it may seem on the surface.)
But I agree, it was a missed opportunity in regards to the other things that she's been doing lately to take charge of "her brand."

I think a high finish on American Idol is a big deal to Mayfield. He introduced her as being from American Idol at the HOB show. He might not realize AI isn't as popular as it once was.

It does only have 366 views on Youtube so likely only people already familiar with Haley are the viewers. If it was linked on a bunch of major websites I'd be more concerned that it didn't discuss more of her recent accomplishments to the masses that might become new fans. Just like the Toronto morning TV interview, American Idol stories is more of what will keep larger unfamiliar audiences interested so in that regard it's not a bad thing to discuss Haley's run on Idol as it may lead to new fans that want to explore this artist further.
