Residual negativity from fans of other idols

Okay, what I don't understand is why is everyone so hateful and patronizing toward her on that site? I'm sure she's really taking their "oh so good natured but thinly veiled negative criticism but we're only trying to help her" advice to heart.

For the record, I don't think MJ hates her, because she says a lot of favorable stuff on the blog. I think we just get defensive when people patronize Haley

I feel like the whole lack of "performance skills" is ridiculously unfair. She may have a little awkward look in her eye sometimes when she's being filmed, but I'm completely baffled at the stiff criticism.

And WTF - she's a freaking soul singer! She's supposed to run around the stage or something? It really makes no sense at all. I loved that comparison to Amy Winehouse. It was about the VOICE! That's what Amy is all about, and that's what Haley's about too. Seriously, I'm not understanding how moving around the stage like a crazy person will fit her music at all. Maybe if she fronts a rock band, I don't see that happening though.

And what is up with this kind of criticism always given to her and no one else. I mean this is some INTENSE criticism that I'm reading. I know people get ridiculous criticism on the blog, but this is just harped on every freaking time something is posted about her. I guess its good that there are impassioned responses!

I counted a lot of patronizing comments on that site, it strikes me as odd that American Idol fans think they are better than Haley I don't want to say jealousy...but ummm...

Absolutely. That's what I care most about in a singer. Someone like Haley with a great voice is going to have more longevity in the music business than someone who captures the public's attention for other things. They might not make as much money, but they'll be able to do what they love for a long time.

Even under amiable circumstances you can’t please everybody. However there are people that just like to be contentious no matter what. I’m glad that Haley’s fans defend her at these other sites. They are not worth thinking about for me. I like Miguel’s site because everybody here is good natured and gives out positive energy which is exactly what Haley does through her music, performances and charity work.

As already been said, the negativity of Haley is based on premises that can’t be defended.

Haley’s music is described by the industry as a multiple of genres - blues, soul, jazz, rock, pop, funk, reggae, disco, etc. Haley’s sound is compared by the industry to Adele, Amy Winehouse, Grace Potter, Grace Slick, Stevie Nicks, Janis Joplin, Doris Day, Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, etc and for me Natalie Cole.
If the above are the same, then night/day, hot/cold and wet/dry is exactly the same.

I agree with Ellen and Miguel, I am mesmerized by Haley’s voice and the raw emotion she puts into each of her songs. I don’t need her to move around or dance around the stage to reinforce this fact. Can Haley improve her stage presence? Of course she can, she is only 22 and just starting out and she will. Her growth during AI season 10 was incredible.

That's ultimately the thing...Do you go to a ballet, expecting a brawl? Do you go to a bull fight expecting a tea party?

I can't understand people offering an opinion on something they don't obviously like, especially veilling it as 'helpful advice'...and on top of that, different genre's have different ways of communicating with it's audience.

James' genre, Heavy Metal and Rock and Roll, has him being high energy, feeding the crowd and being fed by the crowd.

In the same way that Haley's current genre, it is better to focus on the voice and vocal interpretation, her vocal instrument, no need for pyrotechnics and coordinated dance moves. She was never going to be, nor ever admitted to wanting to be the next Katy Perry.

Why do you think in my vids, I often zoomed in to catch her facial expressions? She is subtle and nuanced in her delivery when she slips into 'Jazz Mode'... she flashes a smile, raises an eyebrow, closes her eyes to 'feel' the music and rhythm, all the while singing with such vocal clarity and texture (oxymoron? )

Don't get me wrong, she can bring the energy too, when it's warranted, less you forget the one and only time she rapped...

I try to stay away from from negativity and every singer entertainer athlete politician everyone up to the President of the United States has some form of negativity and slander. I think the subject has been addressed before to me it's just nitpicking so what I don't understand is why people try to conform her to what they want her to be. Baffling.Your in your element on stage.

Some people get self gratification by putting others down. When they aren't happy with themselves, they criticize others and feel good by doing so. I'd like to know what kind of artists these haters listen to.

I'd like to see them get up on stage and sing!! Then we'll have something to talk about!!

It often happens with contestants who get the polarizing edit on Idol.

Look at Adam Lambert, sure, the guy speaks his mind..but pretty much every individual in the entertainment industry that has worked with him talks about how genuinely nice he is. Many would rate him as the best idol ever, objectively. And yet, you can barely mention his name on some sites because of the vitriol that inevitably occurs.

I think with these contestants, it's not necessarily a matter of whether the blogger likes or dislikes the contestant, it's simply the extreme emotions that a performer provokes which causes the blogger to have to start banning people. And I've noticed, no matter the contestant/performer, it's always the fans of the performer that seem to be perceived poorly, not the "haters."

I used to read MJ's blog so I could keep up with all things Haley. Usually, I wouldn't even read the comments because they were so annoying most of the time (although I did chalk up some 'like' votes for some of mine). I only just stopped following the blog because it hardly has any Haley info that I can't get elsewhere (like from here) and I don't particularly enjoy reading about other Idols. (See, if I don't like performers I just avoid them, I don't attack them online. It isn't worth it to me and is pointless besides.) I'm fully aware that not everyone will have the same tastes I do, so I'd rather just focus on what I like and not worry so much about what a bunch of tasteless nit-wits think.

I originally addressed the notion of negativity directed towards Haley because I didn't want others to think Tusk was referring to someone here. I then thought better of responding to it and "unapproved" my post. But I found another response had already been made to my post. So I approved my post and then split the three posts off into this thread. Others were already responding as well so I split off their posts and merged them with this thread.

HaleyFans has maintained a policy of not dwelling on such negativity. In light of that, I will close this thread later today.
