Haley Reinhart on keys...

She probably wanted a keyboard to help with the songwriting. I understand a keyboard or guitar is usually used to help compose songs and the keyboard is easiest to learn. Since Haley has a strong musical background and there was a piano in their house I assume she already knows the basics.

At this point its become apparent that writing her own music is at least as important to her as being a performer.She's probably got melodies/partial arrangements/lyrics swirling around in her head all the time.

Face it-she's not doing much performing at the moment so writing is an important outlet for her to have.Like you said she probably already knows the basics of a piano and now she has the inspiration to carry it a step further and use it as a writing tool.

Casey had a Skype chat today with a couple of fans during which he apparently told them he was teaching Haley how to play her new keyboard.

While it is possible to play with longer fingernails (been there, done that), if one is to press the keys the way one should, it is difficult. There is also the little problem of catching nails between the keys, which is a thoroughly unpleasant experience!

As I've mentioned before, I'm so pleased with this development. I have long thought, that given the family that Haley grew up in, that a.) it simply didn't make sense that she didn't seem to play an instrument; and b.) she shouldn't be relying on others to help her write "her songs." Now if she can learn to play well enough that she can get the melodies and chord structures down, she can turn to others for arrangement help, if needed, but she should reap the financial rewards with less "sharing." (Yes, I know -- sharing's a good thing, usually ....)

Just cut off my long natural nails... They've always been a part of me, even as a kid. As weird as it may sound, it's kinda a big deal for me... But I want to change things up & perhaps learn to play different instruments. We'll see what happens.... I may just grow them back next week haha, but the act of cutting them alone has taught me to take a close look at my life and further open myself up to greater opportunity... having no fear in taking the plunge, while feeling solid in my decision making. I like to find deeper meaning with every step that I take on this fine earth. Connecting all the magic dots of life (Pee-wee Herman ref) makes me smile & gain perspective on what really matters. Being multifaceted like that will make people take her even more seriously as a musician! And if there is one instrument that screams Haley it's the piano!
