" I got better" (response by the guy that said he got turned into a Newt)
I did have Monty Python in mind Merc! !
.. the "i know i know " was in other MP skits . As far as I was concerned they were coming up with STUPID resoning so ..that fits the screen below too.
I can't think of a the word Witch in any context without at least momentarily thinking of the scene... thankfully Rhiannon doesn't use the word Witch... it is the word Witch, not the concept of a witch that triggers the memory ....
as for "goddess" sure
You're righ "good witch" doesn't fit Haley... especially in regard to MP; ) or some woman in taffeta with a sparkly wand
but, I'm more inclined to Angel

The reason the "Witch" reference comes to mind for Rhiannon is because that's how Stevie would introduce it before she sang it... that was her 'thing', back in the '70's
"This is a song about an old Welsh Witch.."
From Wiki
Quote:Nicks discovered Rhiannon through a novel called Triad, by Mary Leader. The novel is about a woman named Branwen, who is possessed by another woman named Rhiannon. There is mention of the Welsh legend of Rhiannon in the novel, but the characters in the novel bear little resemblance to their original Welsh namesakes (both Rhiannon and Branwen are major female characters in the medieval Welsh prose tales of the Mabinogion).
Nicks bought the novel in an airport just before a long flight and thought the name was so pretty that she wanted to write something about a girl named Rhiannon. She wrote "Rhiannon" in 1974, three months before joining Fleetwood Mac, and has claimed that it took 10 minutes to write.
After writing the song, Nicks learned that Rhiannon originated from a Welsh goddess, and was amazed that the haunting song lyrics applied to the Welsh Rhiannon as well. Nicks researched the Mabinogion story and began work on a Rhiannon project, unsure of whether it would become a movie, a musical, a cartoon, or a ballet. There are several "Rhiannon Songs" from this unfinished project including "Stay Away" and "Maker of Birds." Nicks wrote the Fleetwood Mac song "Angel" based on the Rhiannon story.

WOW
Tusk that is awesome ! I so glad you shared that.
I also love the line about 1 minute in where she's talking about the intent for a song and how it went a bit different than when she started... that she hadn't heard a part of what it meant until she just listened to it in a clip before the interview...
.. or something like that. The "meaning" of lyrics is one of the things that can set me off ... especially if people argue that it isn't what the author meant ( I'm far more ok with questions about whether a singer felt a real meaning behind the way they were singing it themselves ... and felt the melody....sometimes a melody tells as much a story as the lyrics to...end tangent)
I've got strong visceral memories from this one... SF street parties on days, sometimes not unlike today... big blue skys with puffy white clouds.. maybe only 55 degrees out.. guess these would be early season street parties..
and they're be really great bands just wailing away on long versions of these sorts of songs and I'm sure
thats where I just took in Angel.. in a sort of deep way without ever needing to think about it because it was just a great time and place ....dancing with girls I just met, or even often with friends dancing with each other's girl friends and pretty much dancing alongside married couples as it is was always a wide age range sort of thing in SF and we'd be hooting and hollering at the band to keep playing and laughing at the bright blue sky .. cool air, hot warming sun.... .
Anyway.. not exactly sure why I shared that...
.. but there was a sort of "dark" under the music
...but the "Dark" always read say ...deep.. or full or broad, or say.. something inscrutable and timeless like "destiny" that was there before and there after you.. ? and somehow, that just made the whole thing actually "happy" but in a just sort of complete way.... I know thats how people feel at concerts for all sorts of music so, I guess isn't tied to one type......
... still maybe there are flavors of the precise feeling of release different music gives.
Maybe it's different to dance in the face of danger ? dance in the face of something as mystical and inscrutable as a witch?
Not that there is any one take away from this, but this is a answer Nicks has at her own web site
Quote:Q. What kind of music does Stevie like?
A. Stevie enjoys music from many different eras and genres. As a teenager and young adult, she was especially fond of the bands that emerged from the mid-1960s psychedelic rock scene. Artists from that time included Bob Dylan, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, and Santana, among others. She also listens to R&B, rockabilly, and dance music.

The main thing is I loved the video you linked Tusk. hadn't thought of the connections with your name but ..your story of it's origin paints another color my online perception of the guy behind the name : ) . Neet tweet too
Its also always super cool to see someone so alive at working on something they love.. and seeing her at that young and glowing stage on top.. .. Haley shares fair number of her mannerisms huh?

RE: American Idol 2014
I feel like there are a lot of huge flaws with a lot of the contestants.
Malaya, for instance..has no control over her voice, despite the talent.
Majesty had a relatively weak voice but she did have the best stage presence of anyone.
I find Alex and Jessica to actually be really good musicians. But I get the feeling they are introverted and this setting makes them uncomfortable. (still, they are more enjoyable than most there.)
Kristen, Sam, and MK have the same issue. Beautiful voices. Really pretty tones. But..they looked like deer in headlights on stage. (And Kristen and MK weren't the best at choosing their own songs.) They just had an air of "not ready" about them. And come across as awkward.
If I'm honest, I do prefer Sam and Alex to pretty much any WGWG that Idol has had. And he does have a nice voice. But unlike MK (for me) I feel absolutely nothing when he sings. However, he does have potential if he can get over his fear/awkwardness.
