^^When I watched Tusk's videos of Haley's journey, I listened to You & I differently. I listened to the song , rather than Haley's singing.

And, what I realized is that the melody of the verse isn't particularly "melodic." The first two measures stay largely on one note (let's say "E"), then the next two measures go up a half step (to "F") and stays largely on that note. There is some variation, but not much. In truth, Mary Had a Little Lamb and Twinkle, Twinkle ... have more melody than those four measures in every verse. Which makes me think that it doesn't showcase a voice very well.

Granted, that was not J-Lo's point when she gave her comments to Haley. But Harry -- or Keith -- might pick up on that.

But the following season, Randy Jackson called it a "great song choice" for Elise. The criticism was because it was Haley, and no other reason. (Even the "no one has heard of it" criticism was strange. Because Lauren sang a song that was on Carrie's album, but never released as a single. Even though "You and I" didn't have a studio release yet, most Gaga fans have heard it, because she'd been playing it for about a year before Haley sang it on Idol. It was actually my favorite Gaga song at that point in time - still is, really)

edit: I'd love to see Haley work with Jena. Jena's a talented girl..actually has stage presence..and a really unique voice. Haley has done an extraordinary job writing music for her specific voice, and I bet she could help Jena some with that. (Jena's song was great, itself.)

It's an interesting photo. Haley has a pleasant but subdued look, Casey appears focused on the task. Both Caleb and Jena look like they'd rather not. Jena really looks glum.

Going into final four week things are getting a bit strange. But maybe Idol will get a little bump in ratings.

My above point was really about a song that, from a melodic standpoint, is as dull as dishwater, and in response to Miguel's question regarding how the judges and RJ might respond.

Randy shouted, “Yo America! Elise is back!” He also praised her for picking the perfect song...You needed a moment, you got it tonight.

When Haley sang it he remarked:

JLo's comments about Haley's YAI:

Jennifer Lopez said she loved the way Haley sounded, but she wasn't sure that it was a good idea to sing a song from Lady GaGa that hasn't been released yet. Jennifer also said Haley Reinhart needed to showcase songs that people are going to connect with.

Her comments to Elise:

This is the thing, you did exactly what you wanted to do. You let go, but kept control at the same time. No one can sing like you, it’s crazy.

Oh, he's never the authority on anything. But my point was, regardless of what the song is..the reason for the criticism for it was because it was Haley..and had nothing to do with the actual song. Just like how "Earth Song" was relatively unknown according to JLo. (It's only Michael Jackson's biggest selling single world wide.)

The 3:19 mark says it all to me. IMHO I think she knew what they do when she agreed to sing the song (just my opinion)...
