As has been the case often on my trips, one thing lead to another, remember the gal who was talking about the Breton Sound with me at the after party? The girl friend of one of the band members (she said she was an engineer)?

The Breton Sound opened at the HOB, also did a set at the AfterParty. She and I had our like of Weezer in common so we struck up a conversation (a couple members used to be in a Weezer cover band)... I told her I actually did tweet about her boyfriends band being pretty good during the show, I showed my Tweet. Impressed she offered a band bumper sticker...... Anyway, it ended up me following them @TheBretonSound (and getting more bumper stickers and a drink coaster with their logos on it)...

Short story, long, it was them that retweeted the tweet because there were pics of them in the article too. Turns out these awesome pics of Haley were there too.(best of the night)

Irvin Mayfield and Brenton Sound at the HOB



...Reinhart’s vocals were smooth and embodied those of a well-seasoned jazz singer. Her grasp of the material and mutual respect for Mayfield and company was evident throughout her performances. I will say it was a bit off hearing “Smells Like Teen Spirit” in such a different way, but it still fit the evening...

Thank you Tusk and Miguel for posting all the wonderful videos and stories from our amazing trip to HOB in NO. And these new pictures ^^^ really give you the feeling of what it was like to be there at the show. I will say I could see Haley's sparkly gold eye shadow glinting in the light from the balcony.

Sorry I haven't contributed to the stories and pics posted. I have been working non stop since returning, and I don' t think any pictures I have could top whats already been posted. But the trip was worth every penny I spent on it. Loved New Orleans! And Irvin is a very cool dude!

I have been remiss not getting to this thread for a few days--but that doesn't mean I haven't been listening to these wonderful videos. Thank you Tusk for capturing these performances for the world to see. Also, your in-depth commentary/recaps about both evenings in NOLA have been fascinating and make it feel like we all were there Also, thanks to Babbs and Miguel and everyone else who attended and shared with us.

TBH, and risking the rath of this forum--I'm not a big Led Zeppelin fan (ducks) I don't know why exactly--but I just don't like their songs that much. The exception being "Been A Long Time" Secondly, I don't know much about Nirvana and don't like the song "Smells like Teen Spirit" I do like Queen--but was way more into British bands like Yes, Pink Floyd & ELP.

So, I was really interested in seeing how this whole thing would hit me. I love jazz--much more than really hard rock--and I was looking forward to hearing what it would all be like. I was blown away. First of all, these songs are hard to sing. The melody is not easy to do on some of them--esp turning them into jazz arrangements.

I'm sure Haley didn't have a lot of time to rehearse with the band since she's been traveling and lives in LA. So, how she pulled it off so magnificently--just goes to show her incredible talent.

Like many others my fave of the night was the after hours "At Last" I got a bit emotional watching it. I don't know if it was the mood of the darkened after hrs room or the lyric or Haley's journey or what--but it did hit me.

I want to mention about that dress. WOW. That's my fave so far. And I have loved all the Alice P dresses.

Anyway--must have been thrilling again for Haley to sing with a terrific big jazz band. Kudos to IM. He's so great

^^ Looks like there was potential for another lipstick massacre in the photos Miguel posted. That mic is quite red.

I agree Lauraliz those songs with the jazz treatment are challenging to sing. Haley was stretching in spots (not sure how else to put it) and I think she had to focus a lot more on the band and hitting her spots than we typically see.
