Chicago Business Journal: Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. and Energy BBDO Chicago revel in superb storytelling in new Extra gum TV spot

Now gum behemoth Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. company knows. And more than 10 million YouTube viewers (so far) of "The Story of Sarah & Juan" do as well: Storytelling in advertising — when done exceedingly well — simply can't be beat. Ever. Which is something all the young turks in the ad business certainly need to be reminded of early and often....

"Sarah & Juan" is simply the story of a romance between two young people told in visuals that unfold to a soft modern rendition of the Elvis Presley classic "Can't Help Falling in Love" performed by "American Idol" finalist Haley Reinhart. The story is shot in mostly soft-focus, which only adds to the piece's unabashedly — and gloriously — sentiment-laden aura. Though imagery of the Extra brand is inserted into the story, the inserting is done with some restraint and in a way that makes Extra a believable prop in the finished piece rather than something tacked on because it has to be.

I saw it before NFL Primetime on ESPN last night.... When I heard Haley's voice singing CHFIL, I thought some ad had started up on my PC, but when I looked, it was on TV

I went for my phone to record it, but was too slow by the time I'd punched in my Pin

I still haven't seen it on TV yet I've never been so eager for commercials to start playing while watching TV LOL!

Watch ESPNU, Muse, Reelz, FM, VHS, MTV, etc. and you'll likely see it. Sunday morning while I was on my computer setting my winning lineups, I had ESPN2(?)'s Fantasy Football Today on in the background and they played it at least 3 times and maybe 4 times. I'm guessing it will be shown in more mainstreet networks in the future. I'm surprises by all the sports network appearances but I guess they're going for the guy in pursuit of his other favorite pastime.

ispot.tv will occassional list upcoming airings so you record it and go right to it without having to wait for it.

They need to get the Extra Gum ad in front of Adele's new video, which already has nearly 100,000,000 views. When I went to view it, and refreshed it repeatedly, I kept getting an ad for a new ABC television series about a killer.

Watched all of DWTS last night. Don't see how CHFIL would have worked on show given the theme. Maybe there is still hope? There are plenty of shows left in the season, and her friend Mark B is still in the mix (but possibly not for much longer). Crossing my fingers!!
