RE: Happy for Haley
Wild Horses:
Quote:Amazing performance...in every respect... And I was really ecstatic and in high spirits.. Until I read some of the childish comments slating Haley! I get it.. You're Myles fans... Same as me... which is what brought me here.. as well as Slash of course.. Truth be told, I'd never seen nor heard of Haley before... But guess what...She put in an incredible performance... as of course did Myles and Slash... Stop trying to brown nose(impress) them just to look like hardcore fans... Because you actually just come across as uneducated and pathetic! Leave the school playground, please!! (My dads bigger than your dad s syndrome!)

RE: Happy for Haley
Haley's Journey Part 3
Quote:rahn lawson 1 month ago
Wow.. I first heard Haley on Post Modern Jukebox. I didn't know she was on American Idol, and after watching the three parts of this I can't believe she didn't win. Nothing but love for you Haley.

Preface - Threw my tv out in 2005, watching this for the first time b/c I got clued into Harry Reinhart this past summer - no idea his daughter on this show til a month ago ...
Wayyyy back when, I saw Aerosmith as a senior in HS, 1975, tho they were cool I never took to them THAT much but Steven Tyler's, "It's not how many times you fall, it's how many times you get back up" just made me an Aerosmith diehard.
Combination off Rocks always been bad ass tho, Hell the whole album just to be clear I did dig them but now they're locked-in as champs.
PS - How this kid (sorry I'm 60 now she's that to me) didn't win this competition, I will never know - poise, personality, fearlessness, and above all ... pipes like a rock & roll angel. TV ... go figure, if I hadn't thrown the thing out the window before, FOR SURE would've her elimination.

Randy Jackson at 23:38 makes the comment that songs that people know can't be changed much or people will lose connection with the original. I find it a hilarious comment because I found out about Haley through her version of "Creep" she sings with Scott Bradlee's Post Modern Jukebox. Then I got into Casey Abrams, and fell in love with their version of "Sail". The common factor is that those songs are both covers that are quite different from the originals. Scott Bradlee is one of the most versatile contemporary jazz pianists and to see Haley accompany with him with ease on many occasion shows her capableness. Her range and sense of pitch are both professional level, unfortunately in this day and age the understanding of those talents are quite rare. Even when she fumbles over words in that group song her pitch is dead on and she scats the rhythm so it fits into the background, in a live performance that would have been easy to laugh off. I've been to a jazz concert where the band forgot to give the singer music for a song on the set list, the singer improvised the melody through scatting on the spot after the band played through the head once so she knew it. As a jazz musician myself, I know how cut throat the world of music is, even outside of the big stage. But the biggest question in jazz is, "can you speak the language?". If the answer to that question is a yes, you are invited in the conversation. So to bring this back together, no real musician should care about the audience when they play. Because we musicians have taste, otherwise we would think everything we have ever done is perfect. And no great musician has ever thought that, because if one did he or she would stagnate and then the music would sound dead, because the journey would have stopped.

RE: Happy for Haley
Some of you might know, the last couple of weeks, I returned to Vietnam to visit some of my relatives. While the overall experience wasn't the best because of the heat, humidity, pollution and insect bites, it was really great meeting family I hadn't seen for a few years.
By the fourth day, I played some of Haley's PMJ covers, Creep, Seven Nation Army, of course CHFIL & At Last from my phone as we ate at the dinner table...playing the music an older crowd might enjoy (as opposed to her more modern originals from Better and WTS)
My Aunt's and Uncles really liked it. My Aunt also played it on her iPad, which my Uncle plugged into his amp...
Every meal, they have a lot to talk to each other about (most of which I couldn't understand, I don't speak Vietnamese) ... during one of these chatty sessions, I turned the volume down on "Creep" so they could hear each other better. My Uncle went over and turned it back up again LOL
Then, his wife came in and heard the name "Haley Reinhart"....she asked "From American Idol?"
(She's an above average english speaker as a second language, her main language is Vietnamese)
I never mentioned Idol at all in talking to them about Haley, traveling to see her w/ one of my Aunt and Uncle in Paris last year, and the videos I post of the shows
You heard right, Seven years later, in Saigon, Vietnam....someone recognised Haley's name from Idol.... I could not believe it LOL Talk about making an impression
