RE: Concerned About Second Single
I have included several points to ensure disagreement.
Experience or science, I don't know. But I do know that "hey, I love that song, its my favorite, it needs to be her first single" is not how they are chosen. Different artists and different albums have their own thought processes, but here is a hypothetical one:
She is a new artist; what song will best represent the style and theme of the album and vocal potential to introduce her music?
Which song, (sometimes the ballad, maybe Oh My! in this case) will we release second to widen the audience.
After a certain time of growing number of listeners, radio play and media attention, lets let out the killer single.
In other words, its a strategy probably more than a science, but they have a lot of science on demographics and preferences. But this gets blown out of the water from time to time with once in a lifetime artists like Adele or Haley.
Its still too early to get depressed. Don't believe me, believe in Haley. She said it would be a slow ride. Adele took two years with 21. She said she wants to go to the top and has the determination. She did not put a two month time limit on it. I love her as an artist and believe in her. I believe in Jimmy Iovine and his billion proofs of his ability compared to anyone else. I believe in her music family and the teaching lifetime of Patty and Harry. I believe in Haley's inner strength to pull through. She doesn't deserve comparison to contemporary superstars new albums with multi-million fan bases. Take a look at some of their early work, years ago; Haley is stellar. She is changing music and changing the horrible taste in music of generations and it will take some time.
My druthers is Undone on Leno and the huge media exposure after the explosion of Spiderweb and the riots at lollapalooza but I am sure they have groups who can guess relative popularity better than me. She then goes platinum after Saturday night live.
Now cheer up or the beatings will continue.
