Jeff Goldblum And The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra Release First Singles From Debut Jazz Album ‘The Capitol Studios Sessions’
SEPTEMBER 6, 2018

BBC Radio 2 yesterday debuted the first single to be released from ‘The Capitol Studios Sessions’, which is set to come out on November 9. ‘My Baby Just Cares For Me’ features vocals from Haley Reinhart, and is a cool live jazz (of course) interpetation of the Nina Simone standard. It’s got some really great interplay between Goldblum and Reinhart, at the start, and is just…cool. Slickly cool and fun.
When I first heard the song I thought of JLo's comment after Moanin' - "Sounded like they've been doing it all their lives" in reference to the chemistry. Haley always has chemistry; she brings it. And it's no different with Jeff especially since they are, in her estimation, kindred spirits.

Jeff Goldblum details debut jazz album, The Capitol Studios Sessions

“I love improvising and that feeling of communication and interplay,” Goldblum explained in a press release. “It’s one of the cornerstones of my acting technique. I see my music in the same way.”
Joining in for this unique recording experience were singers like Irish superstar Imelda May (“Straighten Up & Fly Right)” and former American Idol standout Haley Reinhart (“My Baby Just Cares for Me”). Comedian Sarah Silverman also features on the 1920 classic “Me and My Shadow”, while Grammy-winning trumpetest Till Brönner appears throughout.

Interesting how Imelda May and Haley are characterized by this writer. Imelda is a superstar. Huh? I like some of Imelda's work and her overall sound but superstar? Her most viewed YT video has 3.6 million views and has been post for 8 years. Her most popular song on Spotify has 4.7 million streams (her cover of Tainted Love). So she apparently makes up for her lack of popularity in having a certain "coolness" factor. She also benefits a less competitive overseas (for example she gets featured on the tele and BBC radio).
In contrast to Imelda, Haley gets stuck with the AI label despite having a song with 25 times more streams than Imelda's best effort. Underplayed versus overplayed. And we know who's song is the featured as the first release. The article above this one has it right.
Jeff is a popular guest for late night shows and daytime talk shows. I think there is a good chance Haley will sing MBJCFM with him on at least one of these shows as he does promo for the project.
