RE: Hail damage in Dallas
(06-13-2012, 08:38 PM)Miguel Wrote: This evening we here in Dallas were hit by a pretty good hail storm. It had been hailing for about five minutes when I sent my parents an email about another subject and signed off by mentioning it was hailing but not too big. As soon as I did that, the hail became bigger and more forceful. I fired off another email letting them know that. Then the hail took it up another notch. I'm certain I'll need a new roof, which is cool except for the insurance deductible. Some vids and pics others have posted:
OMG! Only in Dallas!
P.S. Sorry about the insurance deductible.

RE: Hail damage in Dallas
Quote:(Reuters) - Insured losses from the massive hailstorms that struck the Dallas area on Wednesday could reach as much as $2 billion, based on the volume of claims insurers have already received, the Southwestern Insurance Information Service said on Friday.
The SIIS, a trade group that speaks for property insurers in Texas and Oklahoma, said members have already classified the storm as catastrophic.
...If the SIIS forecast is right, it could be one of the worst storm losses, excluding hurricanes, in U.S. history.
..."Based upon the claims filed within the past 36 hours, this storm could reach $1.5 to 2 billion in insured losses. This is preliminary and we are hopeful that the damage estimates fall short of what we are predicting," SIIS President Sandra Helin said in a statement.

RE: Hail damage in Dallas
10-3-14
Had a big storm blow through yesterday. In Plano, where I work, it looked ominous but passed through quickly.
I arrived home last night from work about 8 pm. There was a ladder against my neighbor's home and two guys working a wood chipper in her front yard.
I lost a 15-ft section of the 8-ft-tall fence in my backyard yesterday.
That is relatively minor compared to the damage suffered by others.
This news report refers to a large area in Dallas known as "Lake Highlands." But the damage shown in the video is less than a 1/4 mile from my home.

RE: Hail damage in Dallas
Since I was without power until 4 a.m., I slept with the windows opened. The storm brought much cooler weather, making that experience much more pleasant than expected.
This is also playing out a couple of miles from my home:
Quote:State and county officials executed a communicable disease control order to force four unidentified people, believed to be adults, to remain inside the Dallas apartment where Thomas Eric Duncan developed Ebola symptoms.
...“There was noncompliance with the request to stay home,” said Thompson.
One of the children attended school Thursday, despite a stay-at-home order issued the day before by Dallas school officials.
