RE: Concerned About Second Single
Well, I might as well steer this back on topic now that the humor purge is completed, lol...
My second choice for Haley's next single, if my dream of Spiderweb is not actualized and BoB gets passed over, would be Hit The Ground Running. Haley's said she'd like this to be a single, her father plays on it, it's catchy, it's pretty uptempo, it's...uh...ah, gee whiz, Wally, how in the heck can I put this in G-rated terms? IDK, let's just say it's very appealing for men to watch and hear. Also, she can perform it anywhere with or without a band. In fact, I contend it's even more...er...well, effective, yeah, effective, when performed live than on the album version.

I think Undone might a more logical choice than "Oh, My." It has broad appeal and isn't too dissimilar from Free to alienate new fans that were drawn to it. Topically, both are breakup songs. On one, she's in control. On the other, she's a wreck. But a comment she made in the Last FM interview indicated she already has some ideas for an "Oh My" video.

That is true of online ads in general. But Interscope might take a different tack considering they make it a practice to follow fans of other singers on Twitter.

RE: Concerned About Second Single
I have included several points to ensure disagreement.
Experience or science, I don't know. But I do know that "hey, I love that song, its my favorite, it needs to be her first single" is not how they are chosen. Different artists and different albums have their own thought processes, but here is a hypothetical one:
She is a new artist; what song will best represent the style and theme of the album and vocal potential to introduce her music?
Which song, (sometimes the ballad, maybe Oh My! in this case) will we release second to widen the audience.
After a certain time of growing number of listeners, radio play and media attention, lets let out the killer single.
In other words, its a strategy probably more than a science, but they have a lot of science on demographics and preferences. But this gets blown out of the water from time to time with once in a lifetime artists like Adele or Haley.
Its still too early to get depressed. Don't believe me, believe in Haley. She said it would be a slow ride. Adele took two years with 21. She said she wants to go to the top and has the determination. She did not put a two month time limit on it. I love her as an artist and believe in her. I believe in Jimmy Iovine and his billion proofs of his ability compared to anyone else. I believe in her music family and the teaching lifetime of Patty and Harry. I believe in Haley's inner strength to pull through. She doesn't deserve comparison to contemporary superstars new albums with multi-million fan bases. Take a look at some of their early work, years ago; Haley is stellar. She is changing music and changing the horrible taste in music of generations and it will take some time.
My druthers is Undone on Leno and the huge media exposure after the explosion of Spiderweb and the riots at lollapalooza but I am sure they have groups who can guess relative popularity better than me. She then goes platinum after Saturday night live.
Now cheer up or the beatings will continue.

RE: Concerned About Second Single
Interscope does know what they're doing. They are definitely working everything with a long term goal in mind. The things they've been doing speak volumes as to their belief in her eventual success. It's not like there's only been a few small radio station promos; let's not forget they also had her do the Grammy Museum, the recent AI auditions, Muhammad Ali, ESPN, The View, Last FM, Grammy School, etc., etc.. These things are great signs as to their long term belief and plans for Haley Reinhart, Superstar.
I believe they will hit it hard and huge when the iron is hot after Lolla with a release of Oh My and a smoking hot YouTube video, which will probably go uber viral. Following that, either a quick release of Spiderweb or Undone, and immediately followed up by a world tour with a megastar or supergroup.
It's all good!
How many artists does Interscope have signed? Over 100?
I don't know, but I do know that this summer promo list is not the artists they've given up on.

(07-17-2012, 07:18 PM)Flask Man Wrote: I think concern equals caring, and what all of us are trying to say is we care about her and are concerned that she is given the proper attention and investment she deserves to succeed. I think Interscope still believes in her, as does 19, but they need ROI to back that belief and since sales have been tepid, and her music style unorthodox, they likely see her as somewhat of a risk, albeit a talented one with beauty, sex appeal, intelligence, and work ethic all factoring into a big potential upside.
I'm not an expert, just a fan and layman, but as one I see Interscope being a bit confused about how and to whom they best should be marketing and promoting her (i.e. the foolish miscalculation of following 50k Bieber & One Direction twitter fans who simply aren't her demographic). BoB is a way for them to soften the risk and marketing confusion, because he brings a real hit-making body of work to trust their investment to. He also has a big, established fan base to draw from, and will make radio feel more comfortable adding Haley to their rotation.
The problem is he's really not Haley's music style beyond this cameo, and his fans are probably not the type who will buy her album or become part of her fan base. It also risks the "sell out" label from serious music lovers who will mock his milquetoast rap and criticize her for adding him simply as a hired gun to pad her sales stats. Thus, it's still sort of a mixed bag...every pro has a con and every con has a pro.
In the end, anything that helps Haley I'm in favor of. If the experts think the pros of BoB will outway the cons and help her success than I'm all for it. Personally, though, I just cringe at the possibility that Haley could get lost in the BoB name. I would rather she get all the acclaim for the hit, and become successful without this crutch. Later in her career, when she has big superstar cachet like Taylor Swift and can carry the day, than fine.
My top choice for a single from the opening day of snippet release has been Spiderweb. I think it has all the elements to be an absolute monster hit, and fits everything Haley herself wants to be as an artist. I know it won't happen, but I sure wish it would.
Flask.. you know i'm with you on Spiderweb! Can you just imagine our sultry little vixen spinning that one into a mega hit video?
