It's been a rocky couple of years for Travis, a North Carolina native best known for hit songs like "Is It Still Over?" and "On the Other Hand." He divorced Elizabeth Travis in 2010 after 19 years, but retained her services as his manager, a role she held for more than three decades.

Earlier this year, though, Elizabeth Travis filed a lawsuit claiming that Randy Travis made it impossible for her to do her job and terminated her management contract without proper notice. Randy Travis countersued in May, accusing his ex-wife of divulging confidential information about him to damage his reputation and career.

Initially turned down by Music Row, Travis found success in the mid-1980s and became a pivotal and important figure in country music. Initially considered too country, his deep-voice traditional style inspired millions to buy his albums and artists like Alan Jackson to follow his lead.

He's charted 16 No. 1 country singles and remains an influence for many in Nashville.

From the time line in the short article, it sure looks like his wife had been holding his life at least modestly together over the decades.

"In sickness and in health" ... she was doing her role...it seems even after he first tried to reject her. I'm not trying to be moral about that but just reflective. He clearly seems sick but we are not islands and good social bonds often keep us well... or well enough. We can help those we are close to keep on the rails although there is a point where they can just go off the rails by pushing those around them out.

I'm divorced, and I guess I don't necessarily believe people should stay married at -any- cost, yet, well staying married and making it work can have a pretty good role as long as both sides try.

I think more than anything though, it was just an observation... maybe not something that was wrong (who knows the exact circumstances) but another warning sign or just the loss of a crutch or whatever.

Travis’ lawyer, Larry Friedman, said he also doesn’t know who left the wrecked Chevrolet truck behind a Walmart Neighborhood Market, but it wasn’t his client.

The vehicle is a ranch truck that Travis rarely used, Friedman said.

“He hasn’t been in that truck or seen that truck in about three months,” he said. “This has nothing to do with Randy whatsoever.”

Friedman said that a ranch hand had been using the truck and that Travis will follow up to try to find out how it ended up with its windshield shattered, its roof dented and with a taillight hanging off.

No criminal charges have been filed in connection with the truck.

It was found less than two days after Travis received a misdemeanor assault citation after an incident in a Plano church parking lot.

Police said Travis is suspected of a simple assault after he stepped into a confrontation between his girlfriend and her estranged husband outside Prestonwood Baptist Church.
