Your detecting abilities are astounding, but I think we know that posting it would be more harmful than helpful, unfortunately.

If we could guarantee that everyone who heard it would buy it, but looking at how good LU is and how many followers she has yet she can't even sell 100,000....

I guess the digital Pandora's box is open, if it's already out there I guess it will eventually be 'making the rounds' just like the other leaked songs still do (which BTW Haley made NO money from)....but how can Haley be successful if so many of her fans/followers don't even buy her album.... I would be so frustrated if I were her

If everytime she works hard to make the best song she can and she finds out that its out there for everyone to download for free and she gets only a fraction of what she should?

I guess this is the times we live in and I have no answer.... I just feel bad that no matter how genuine her efforts are to brighten our lives with her songs, this is just another reason she can't sell, and I will continue to have to listen to her haters point to her sales as proof that they are right about her...

I'd only add that Haley-or any other artist- may have her own reasons for not wanting them out there besides not being able to profit from them.She may like some better than others and nobody has any idea how she might feel about any of that- but she's the one who has to be comfortable with any of them being out there for general consumption

I don't want my last post to be 'judgemental' but I can't overlook the facts.

By spreading her songs for free, even before they can be purchased, what incentive is there to go out and actually purchase something you already have?

Is this basically akin to 'killing the goose that lays the golden egg'?

Instead of nurturing and rewarding the goose so it can continue producing, we snatch the egg as soon as it's laid, suffocate it, starve it (not getting money, credit or sales it should), all the while telling it how much we love it, ... how much longer will that goose be making that egg?

Like I said, I have no answer, other than to say that hopefully, her people learn and try to take more care in securing her material, but I have my doubts in the twitter/digital/technology age.

Tusk, I do have three responses to that.

1. Spreading music free, actually can help to spread music further. If Haley's song happens to be a part of a youtube video that goes viral, (gangum style, for instance) she'll have a hit on her hands...and her career will take care of itself. (Or, all the people who did videos to "Call Me Maybe." They likely didn't buy the song..it was barely out at the time that started. But those videos were a huge reason why it became successful.

2. Artists don't make money off of album sales. Haley's in a little bit better of a position because she's a writer, but more often than not, they don't make anything. They make money from touring. Thus..spreading her music freely helps her because she'll have more fans that attend shows.

3. People will buy artists music they love. (IE, Adele.) Haley just needs the exposure. Will some people steal her music, yup. But the more people that know of her, the more people will buy her music.

I actually don't think much of Haley's stuff was stolen. The truth is, with smaller artists, their fans typically buy the artists albums because they know that artist needs the support. (Just like all of us do.) If someone's suffering from "the digital age" it's usually a bigger singer.

Haley's issue comes out to a simple point. She didn't get enough exposure. Barely any television appearances, no tour, a tiny radio push, a single that was CLEARLY not going to catch on by itself. She was only marketed towards the idol folks.

The one thing that's gone good for her is she's been on television shows and commercials. But that stuff just doesn't leave imprints the way the above does.

Any monetary loss from the leaked songs is minimal. I think Haley's biggest concern with them was that for the most part the songs weren't finished product; they weren't the polished final songs that an artist wants out in the world.

I just want to point out that the people that are receiving these leaked songs are pretty much only her die-hard fans. Meaning, the people who not only bought Listen Up!, but bought numerous copies of it. The fans don't want the songs leaked so we don't have to buy them. We want them because we want to hear them. Hell, I pirated Listen Up! the week before it was released and still bought 4 copies of the thing. And I know I'm probably not alone in that.

I'm just saying that it might be a problem if people who weren't fans and didn't buy Haley's music got the songs, but I don't think that's really the case.

That is an excellent point, Lucy. Haley isn't well known enough for casual listeners to go out in search of her music to steal. I personally can't resist the opportunity to hear new Haley material, any way I can. I also bought around 20 copies of Listen Up.

I too own several copies of Listen Up, and have given some away as gifts as well. I also have heard some of the leaked songs, and whenever they become available for purchase, I'll be first in line to buy them. Having listened to her music over and over again, it's always refreshing to hear Haley material that I haven't heard before.

Well this is all getting off topic again but you do make some good points.Not only Gangnam-but Lana Del Rey basically made her name by virtue of a couple of You Tube videos.And those were obviously put on there for maximum exposure-they weren't "leaked" audio or video things.

I don't know exactly what happenned with Haley's songs that were posted recently.Someone thought(they weren't sure) that they were sent to record companies for demos but I'm sure they weren't intended for mass consumption.At any rate they shouldn't be on there if Haley doesn't want them on there.

Exactly. Also, I'd like to point out that it's an EDM song. EDM (imo anyway) is completely selling out when you're an artist like Haley, who is trying to bring organic music back into the industry. I could never see Haley selling out and releasing an EDM album. I think there's about a 99% chance that she wrote this song solely for someone else to take, and it will never be on an album that she releases. If it does end up on one of her albums, I'm going to be really, really surprised.
