Two Haley songs cleared to sing on American Idol

Yes Tusk it was a bit "Over the top" and far from the controlled smoothness of Haley's version...But you do what you gotta do to get the judges to notice.
Megan Miller may give my early latchon (Angie Miller) a run for her money with my speed dialing finger. The judges will remember that crippled audition for a long time. I'm sure the pre-judging booths sent her thru quickly to be first in front of the judges so she could have surgery later that same day.

Maddie Assel was nominated for Idol by her grandma. She was singing on a New Orleans street when Randy found her using a Liam Neeson-like set of tracking skills. He handed her a ticket and told her to show up the next day to perform for the judges. Maddie's voice has a sweetly feminine bluesy rasp, which she compares to Beyoncé, Adele and Hailey Reinhardt. Keith laughs that she "doesn't sound like any of them." Then we meet the most interesting person on the show thus far: Maddie's grandma. When Maddie walks out, golden ticket in hand, she instantly announces, "Grandma, you're so embarrassing!" And her grandmother just adjusts her mask, throws her Mardi Gras beads, twirls her umbrella and mutters something about "magic dust" and "zombies" as the True Blood theme song starts up.

I was going to tweet the writer - a freelance writer based in NYC whovhas covered Idol for Rolling Stone since the start of last season - but decided to post a comment after noting she had retweeted a RS link to the article. They have about 3M followers versus her 1,300.

Though Maddie's phrasing was a little off, I still adored her Reinhart-esque rasp (Maddie cited Season 10's Haley Reinhart, along with Adele and Beyonce, as her chief influences).
