Two Haley songs cleared to sing on American Idol

You know, a lot of the misconception (of Haley) was based on obnoxious editing by AI and also by fans with an ax to grind selecting the most unfavorable still shots without the context of the following looks.

Some of the AI mistreatment was what they showed and other parts about it was the omission of showing nice things like her homecoming and hugging friends etc., or nice comments school principal made introduction etc like they do for others.

Clearly they had an agenda. We know the show has an agenda and well, a person who wants to enjoy the show really needs to look at it as only part contest and half WWF wrestling match. The end script isn't entirely written at the beggining but the know generally where they are going and the best voting can do is to upset their apple cart a bit in the order of finish ... a steep headwind to overcome that Haley mostly did. (and adequately in my opinion.. I'd have hated that first album if they forced her to sing things that weren't her own.

BUT .

From reading so many comments so many places at blogs and forums, I'm pretty convinced that a fair portion of the people who are negative about her really don't like confident assertive girls shown in their best light either. They show that reaction to a great many girls that don't come from the south or midwest. (illinois and ohio aren't midwest are they ?)

Somehow self confidence in a woman in a way a guy is self confident especially rubs these people in the wrong way. I also wonder if they suspect her of being a "blue stater" and assume she stands for things they don't like...and translate that into a personality "attitude" issue.

Some people enjoy rooting against someone as much as they enjoy rooting for someone. I believe the bulk of the ugly comments directed at Haley came from women who supported Lauren or James. So I think it was more of a gender/age issue than a geopolitical issue. Fortunately, most of the contentiousness has faded with time. I would like to leave it in the past and concentrate on the good things people who have met Haley have to say about her.

The biggest problem were the outspoken people that chose to bring other contestants down rather than build a chosen one up, showing a nasty side of their own insecure personality, and then shouting it and blogging it to get others to get onboard their destructive bandwagon. They viewed confidence as a negative trait probably due to their own lack of self-esteem.

Oh well...water over the damned.

I agree about there being a dislike of girls who show self confidence. Jessica received a lot of the same backlash...and some of it was even from the same posters.

That's why, IMO, the only girl that can win this season is that country blonde one. (Forgot her name.) She's a southern girl, so she'll be shown as being humble and similar to Scotty's personality. They'll vote for a humble girl from a small town who doesn't realize how good she is.

Kelly Clarkson wouldn't win Idol if she were to try out this season. And that's a shame.

Janelle Arthur but I have confidence that Angie Miller will beat this group of mediocre guys if America wants to finally get it right. Unless she already reached her peak and someone leapfrogs her.

I agree with this... I remember how surprised I was during Season 10 (my first season watching AI) and was talking to a co-worker saying how much my daughter and I loved Haley. She immediately said that she and her sister didn't like her. When I pressed her for the 'why'... she admitted it was because her sister's boyfriend really liked her. IMO it's unfortunate that jealously plays a role in the voting but it's going to be there. I wouldn't want Haley to change anything...
