RE: Two Haley songs cleared to sing on American Idol

I'm not being crass about it. Jimmy Iovine is upfront that he is a business man first, and a fan second. I think he knows that he's got more great artists than he knows what do with including all the songs he has to listen to from the past.
He does have a business interest in helping Haley still as his company owns rights and stands most to profit from sales of Listen UP!(actually get almost all the first millions of dollars from sales due to the rules of the advance already paid Haley and expenses on the book that need to be recouped)
I don't think there would be the least bit of awkwardness on his half of the deal.. cutting artists is something he's had to do all his life.. I'm sure including a platinum selling artist or two. With a career of decades he knows that people get fired and hired all the time and a refusing to renew isn't even remotely a firing.
He'd certainly promote a current signed artist over Haley where it was a choice but the efficiency of working Haley into Idol cameo appearances make it really easy... it takes very little camera time and production issues for the show. All things being equal giving her a full spot for a solo before one of his currently signed artists might not be his absolute first either/or choice.. but he's not the only one making that decision. The idol "Franchise" has a different benefit equation to consistency and sucess of its past stars. If they can't get a super big name the show producers might be more inclined towards Haley than a second tier pop act available to them.
