^ Right on Babbs...you just knew that the 2 million+ views on a lot of those Idol videos had to have some effect on the industry too, not to mention the Tusk Video Library.

This news about all the acts that were cut by Interscope comes as pretty big surprise-to me,at least.I remember when the news first came out that Haley had signed with them that there were various concerns from fans.First-some didn't want her associated with anything having to do with Idol and wanted her to get away from that.And there were concerns at first that they wouldn't let her make the record she wanted which turned out to be not a concern.

But I don't remember any concerns about not being able to promote her properly due to-from what it sounds like,at least-they weren't in the financial position to do so.That was suppose to be the big advantage of signing with such a large company.

Looking back it was probably the old chicken and egg dilemna right for the start.

LOL count me in as one who loves mysteries and conspiracy theories, I can't help it.

While I do think labels do "house cleanings" (actually Wind-up did one earlier this year too), I do have to agree with the poster who suggested that on this particular occasion they dropped more acts than they usually would.

I'm no expert in how all this stuff works but it's believed that the Idols get much bigger advances than normal new artists because they are co-signed with 19 Recordings and they want their cut because they discovered them. The execption is if the Idols sign with a label that is outside UMG (which bound to their contract with 19R), eg: James, Stefano, Casey & Naima.

Established artists are bringing in the dough, new artists are promotional investments, costing more money than bringing in for a while. CEO says we need to cut expenses X% or X million dollars, board agrees and they hack from the new artists. Nobody sat down and evaluated Haley personally.

That actually makes more sense than anything.

Also, a lot of CEO's are going to want those "new act investments" to be "Their" new act investments.

I agree with most postings on this thread, but I do not believe a new CEO came in to run Interscope. Jimmy Iovine is still the Chairman of The Board and CEO of Interscope Records. Maybe there was another shake up in marketing or artist relations below him that led to the decision to let go 65 acts including Haley, but there was no change to the CEO position at Interscope in the past few months.

Out of curiosity I went to the Interscope website.When you go to click on "artists"-its says click to see all artists.They have 85 artists listed.

Haley actually said she heard they were letting go of "maybe 65 acts" so that may not be the actual total.But still-if they had maybe 140 or 150 before the "pink slips" that's a signicant percentage by any measure.
