RE: Next album will be blusier
The other night Haley didn't drink more than one glass the entire night, and that was after the show.
You rarely fill those glasses especially with red wine, you gotta let it 'breathe' (I think that's why people swish it in glasses, to oxygenate it)
Quote:You've seen 'em in the bars, swirlin', sniffin' and swishin', haughtily practicing this sacred wine snob ritual and coaxing a wine to its pinnacle of deliciousness. Is it over-emphasized and overdone? Probably. But does the act improve the flavor of the wine? Absolutely.
When you pour it into a glass, the wine is taking its first breath of fresh air since it was bottled. Giving it 10-20 minutes to breathe and stretch its legs clears out the cobwebs. Breathing, a go-to word in wine, is not just a figurative term; the wine actually takes in oxygen.

Home studio, no?
So, it appears Haley is working, working, working. What is great is that now she knows the producers and writers she likes to work with (and vica versa), and can take more time to get to the song and sound she wants.
With "Listen Up", she had said that she recorded some of the songs quickly, going from producer to producer, etc with the hopes of getting the songs and sound she wanted in a cohesive way.
So, think about that...her amazing debut CD "Listen Up" came from a relatively inexperienced young gal new to the whole process and was recorded in a much more rushed manner with people she was not that familiar with....
So, this is ALL SO GOOD. Haley is working with people she is comfortable with, so she can experiment, she can brainstorm and take more time. (And she is obviously having a good time as well... ).
And, now, well, I can't wait to see what she comes up with next...damn.....

To me Haley fairly thrives in the recording studio. As much as I enjoyed her performances on Idol, for me-it wasn't until I heard the recordings she had done of those songs that I realized what she was really capable of.If someone had played me the recordings of say-Blue or I Who Have Nothing in a blindfold test there is no way I could have guessed that they were done by a 20 year old with hardly any experience in the recording studio. They sound to me like classic recordings by a mature artist from another era.And they were done basically on the fly.
And when she was working on Listen Up she recorded over 30 songs. That says alot about not only her work ethic but the willingness of her collaborators to work with her.
And as you say this time she's working with alot of the people who worked on Listen Up with her so now she has all that experience under her belt so its all good.Part of me might wish that she were out performing more right now but this looks like another example of her prioritizing and focusing on this recording project. As always I can't wait to see what comes out of it.

Remember S10 was 'forced' to tour without back up singers (due to cut backs because S9 toured so poorly), and Haley volunteered to do a lot of back up for the other contestants, as well as her group numbers ("Tightrope". "Born This Way" and "Forget You"), I think I remember her saying she was in 11(?) of the performances per night....She showed that not only was she willing to do the grunt work, sing harmonies for/work well with others. This then lead into her writing and singing the back up vocals on her own album.
The touring experience was like a warm up, which meant she didn't break stride, so was better equipped to jump right into recording LU

Another thought...Interscope had first rights to sign Haley due to Idol, and after her great run on the show including being the top Itunes artist that season, they of course, did so. The good news: they gave her the resources and time and opportunity to put out a great memorable CD that launched her career. The bad news: we all know the story...lack of promotion after "Free", nothing about Lollapalooza, nothing about Carnegie Hall, no second single, no real tour plan, etc, etc... (no need to rehash all that)...and of course, in the end, dropping her.
We still don't know the whole story about what happened with Interscope. But Haley does. And now, the choice is hers, not based on the Idol contract. She can make sure that she signs with a label that believes in her vision, commits to her for a few albums, promotes her, and gets her on tour with a strong band.
I hope she is taking her time here, not in a rush, and is using the good counsel of all these contacts she is making in the industry. It appears as noted, that she is focused on working in the studio for now, getting songs done that she can shop to labels.
I too want her performing again, but hopefully with more than a guitar player to accompany her. To me her finest hour performance-wise was Lolla with a rocking band behind her. That is what I hope we see more of by the end of this year....hoping, hoping...
