SPOILER ALERT!:

Well what looked like it would be Nikki's over-zealous libido in hyperactive drive demanding that all her love-toy crushes get thru...but in the end the non-Karaoke boys made it. My guesses were right about Curtis (the cross between Joshua Ledet & Rubin Stoddard), Charlie (revenge of the nerds) and Devin (a male Karen Rodriguez). I thought Johnny & JDA would take the other stools but it was Paul & Elijah instead.

Amazingly I found myself agreeing 100% with Randy Jackson's comments and 0% with Nikki's. It must be a guy thing. Nikki's drool was affecting her brain, but being of the other gender, I'm not one to talk because I would have advanced Stephanie Schmiel just so I could look at her a few more times regardless of her vocals so it works both ways.

You could see the pretty boys playing up to the biggest Idol audience group of voters - the heartthrob-induced pre&post-puberty girls with their boring lovesongs.

This is kind of weird because I guess that I'm responding to Haley on this one and I have mixed feelings because on one hand who could forget how basically off base Randy was with some of his comments towards Haley when she was on the show-and its not too hard to see where Haley is coming from when she accuses him of killing the vibe because who would know better what that feels like.

On the other hand I found my self agreeing with Randy last night more than the other judges when it came to a couple of the critiques.I agree with him--it is singing competition more than anything.There are other things involved but if its a bad vocal its a bad vocal and he called them out on it even if I did feel that he was overly blunt about it.As far as killing the vibe-maybe he needs to go about it a different way.

Given what I've read on Slezak's TVLine review, you are far from alone in agreeing with Randy. Everyone is scratching his/her head in disbelief, but most are siding with him. Truly odd!

Yeah, as much bad as I said about Randy the day before he made a lot more sense tonight and was able to get across why he was thinking things a little.

On top of that, he was the only sane one a couple times even if he wasn't exactly eloquent.

On a side note. -- I'm not digging Curtis at all. Nice voice but I don't feel the songs. Joshua Ledet was better but I didn't like him much for the same reasons. Just a matter of interpretation and attitude about things that comes through in the music.

Personal preference I suppose... all the professional singers seem to love curtis so who am I to say that there isn't talent there.

The talent's there, he's a good technical singer and no professional singer can argue against that. But singing is not just technique and yes Curtis doesn't make me feel a thing either, Joshua Ledet and even Jacob Lusk were better than this guy. Also personality wise Curtis is very unlikable but then again that could be the producers giving him a negative edit.

I think Randy's been better this whole season. But as Slezak pointed out, Mariah has said "we were just talking about X" a LOT, and it's totally possible that he's just repeating Mariah's opinions. But it's better that way, I think Randy needs some direction. There was a point in time when he was one of the better judges. (Last season being Season 8. He stuck by Allison when Simon was being ridiculous.)

And I'll stick up for Nicki a bit. She's got the Paula philosophy..when you can't compliment their singing, compliment their looks. She'll tell it like it is..but if she could give a a compliment about their looks she'd do it.

I'm a little bit concerned about the Shuhba situation. This is two seasons in a row where a contestant, who, IMO..was a wildcard...a fun contestant..was forced out. Shuhba's performance was a bit of a mess. But she could sing. (I would have taken her over Tenna, who I thought...wasn't good.) And she was young..and I agreed with Randy here..a ton of potential.

But I call it the Haley affect. (They aren't going to let a Haley situation happen again) A person who..so far..has shown to be fodder..becomes a risk to the favorites. So they eliminate them. If given the right direction, Shuhba could have been a risk.

Angie is TCO, that is very obvious. Idol has always been very contrived but this season the manipulation has been taken up to 11 and the voters could rebel.

I'm hoping they consider bringing Shubha back a la Jermaine Jones or as a wildcard. Teena is fodder, they know full well the viewers won't vote for her over Candice Glover or Amber Holcomb, she was cast specifically to be cut in the next round.

I'm convinced that Nicki's judging last night was 100% contrived. Nigel decided to take a stab at the "women of a certain age" who vote for WGWGs based on their looks and personalities instead of their singing. He turned Nicki into a parody of these voters and Nicki can pull it off without them realizing it because they perceive her as unpredictable and crazy so they put it down to one of her multiple personalities.

RE Shuba - I think she got a very positive edit all along and that they're maybe hoping that she comes back next year a bit more polished. That's no guarantee but Haley tried out twice. Jessica Sanchez got to a second stage in hollywood the year before she made it onto the show with a full good edit behind her. I liked her too but the kind of errors that she made are really the things that experience and practice can improve. If she's ready for the long haul struggle the industry demands, the year of training and practicing near home shouldn't be a terrible burden and should help her in the long run - if she has what it takes it will show better then.

The fact that they didn't ever show her in a bad light makes me think they have hopes for her in a longer term. (if they planned on surprising us this year I'm sure that they would have played up the story with a different spin two nights ago)

Outcast - I like your conspiracy theory on Nikki's judging being a parody designed to cause the opposite reaction among those that aren't willing to admit to themselves that they're voting on looks. FWIW.. I don't have a problem with looks being one important leg on the stool in who people vote for.. I hate it being the pogo stick that makes them vote though (? LOL new analogy I'm stretching for).

You’re going to hate nickki if you think she’s the person she portrays… I sure wouldn’t like her if I didn’t think she was playing a comic role… going back in time Groucho Marks(who stayed in character as a talk show/variety show/game show host for a dozen years, or Psa Psa Gabor - who never broke from her ditzy ritzy persona as a guest on talk shows, or even Dolly Parton in the ealier 70’s joking about her boobs on Johnny Carson in the 70's and maybe making dumb blond jokes(Dolly has been married to the same guy for 50 years and clearly is sharp as a tack – the persona was part of the entertainment along with her music).
