RE: American Idol 2013
The last few weeks, I was actually enjoying Angie's performances more and more. Watching Kree and Candice was like watching an Opera. They were easy favorites at the beginning, but...I recognise their brilliance, execution and craftsmanship, it's just they never really moved me. I couldn't connect.
I realllly wanted to like Kree, her performance on stage is what she needs to work on the most. The singing is easy for her, so maybe she can be the next Carrie and learn to be an better performer.
Candice. knew I should like her. She moved through her performances like a finely honed athlete, gliding through obstacles with flourish and ease. Emotionally, though, I wanted to, but didn't really 'feel' her performances, as good as they were.
Finally, Angie, I had an automatic reason to dislike her with her ties to Colton (Given my feelings towards the overtly 'faithful'). But unlike Colton, she was never belligerent about it like he was, never in your face, waving a 'righteous' flag.
Wasn't she first introduced as 'the girl who lost her hearing'?
Again, Unlike Lazaro, we never heard about it again. She didn't flaunt that 'advantage' either. She was laser focused on what she needed to work on and never relied upon two 'crutches' that practically EVERY Idol hopeful has abused.
She deserves a ton of credit making it about the music and her singing rather than her faith or disability.
She also improved a ton from then 'til now.... "Sorry Seems to Be The Hardest Word"** was IMO her best performance of the season, she actually showed restraint and poise, the song did not sound old or cheesy (as many lesser performers might do)
**corrected
I hope she doesn't limit herself by following Colton's path into Christian music. Not waving the religious flag, the way Colton did, making me forget it for most of the season, really impressed me about her conviction to her career.
She has the talent to make it beyond Christian music, it's a reliable fall back, but she ought to test how far she can push the Idol momentum.

Mine as well!! Those innate inclinations of hers (Candice's) when she starts "riffing" -- well, they send me. And her glissandos (listen to last note of "LoveSong" and the start of the second verse of "You've Changed") do nothing short of li-que-fy my vital organs -- or, at least, one of them.
In regards to Kree, she has that silky, buttery tone that is glorious to the ear. I think it unlikely, given her country bent, that I'm going support her beyond being thrilled for her that she made it this far -- particularly, given the critiques she's been getting for the last 2-3 weeks.
But I'm so happy that these two made it to next week!

I read that at MJ's. It's the 'safest' bet as a new artist on the scene, build some momentum with help from Colton. Heck, they could tour and be the 21st century's "Donny and Marie".
For reasons posted above, she really impressed me not taking the easy route, the route we expect everyone to take on these shows *ahem*Lazaro*ahem*. Hopefully her plans are bigger. She has crossover potential, I think

Umm, Tusk, Angie didn't perform "Somewhere" last night. That was Candice.
And, as for "She also improved a ton from then 'til now" -- as someone who was involved in the performing arts for a good many years (and a few decades), I didn't see the "improvement." I just saw more "fake performances."
We don't often disagree, but this time, dear Tusk, I must respectfully disagree.

Doh sorry, getting my performances mixed up....
I meant "Sorry Seems to Be The Hardest Word".....
I admit she still comes off stagey. But like Scotty, she toned down a lot of it by the end of the season.
Again, not any shade on the other two, but during a season that was mostly uninteresting, I just wanted to point out how she didn't use the sob story and the faithfulness to get where she got.

Still-if we're talking about the voting power of rural-southern-western America -if I had to bet against her I'd probably have a hard time doing it.Candice may need a knockout punch to win this.
No, Candice WILL require a knockout punch.
From the outset of the announcement of the Top 10, I have been preparing myself for Candice's exit at #3. I knew, at the outset, she had the best voice, she was laying out the best stuff, but -- well, there are those biases (do I need to state them, particularly how well Nicki Minaj "laid it out" the week before Amber's ouster?).
And, this country doesn't really seem to appreciate really good talent -- or truly good music, for that matter except in limited pockets (and, of course, you all think you're within those pockets).
So, I'm astonished -- and, again, thrilled -- at tonight's results.
