Being nice to the contestants has been something the show was known for, because the "judges" role is really more of that as a mentor.

I thought the first show, was overall, significantly better. Both Adam and Usher have better contestants (although the 16 year old could easily be the winner), their coaching styles are interesting to watch..and the judges did critique (although were still significantly nicer about it.)

Juliet Simms is still my fave contestant ever on The Voice. She owned these newbies on Oh Darlin', Roxanne and It's a Man's Man's World. The Voice needs to clear new songs for next season, the repetitiveness is starting to get very noticeable. I've long given up on Idol doing the same.

Tusk-I have to agree with alot of what you say.To me there are too many contradictions in the basic structure of the show.Having things like battle rounds and knockout rounds does not encourage things like restraint,sensitivity or I don't think-basic musicality on the part of the performers.Instead it encourages overstatement,too many melismas.etc. and taking too many liberties-basically I think it encourages the singers to "out belt" the other one.
And the judge/mentor is gonna be emotionally attatched to their contestants so how can anyone expect any kind of objective critique? And even when they're critiquing someone else's singer they still look so hesitant to really say what probably should be said.Many criticize Idol for the same reason but its not as bad on Idol and I think towards the end of this year we've seen some pretty fair and honest opinions on Idol.

I don't know-I prefer Idol-warts and all.But if I happen to see someone I really like on The Voice some time I'd follow them.I just haven't seen anyone since the show came on 4 years ago

I really liked 3 singers on the Voice last year particularly perhaps because it was so refreshing not to hear songs "over sung" .

The voting thing last night angered me so much I'm not going to be able to watch the show.

I know producers vastly steer voting in a "unfair" way by picking beter or worse songs and arrangments.. poor edits showing pain faces and snipey comments, performance order..

its not the "unfairness" that set me off.

It was a larger issue to America that it is ever ok to say "we had a problem with this type of vote so we're only going to count the others... we think this is the most fair way to be cautious about it". That's like saying "we're not going to count any absentee ballots because some people got two of them and others were misplaced so it would be unfair", and then just counted the standard ballots , ignoring that the demographics of the mail in ballots were different which would leat to distinctly different voting patterns. Its even worse with the internet and text voting likely a far larger percentage.

Whether it is an entertainment show or not.. setting this sort of expectation transcends the show and speaks to what is a normal way of handling things. I'd have been much happier with them saying "they tried their best to sort them out in a systematic way" and being unfair behind the scenes (but in a real election the behind the scenes part would be highly audited - it would be the right way because it could be done right).

Stating that you can just ignore demographics entirely and have it be the "most caustious" way is Huxely "1984" double speak that just sends me wild.

Okay...I just adore Michelle.

^Michelle is my last fave left. I would be over the moon if she wins, if not then anyone NOT on team Blake will do.

I have to say I've lost a lot of interest this season thanks to Blake turning it into Nashville Star. He really needs to go on hiatus for at least one season, his fanbase has gotten too powerful.

I don't know that it's Blake, so much as a response to the Voice stealing a lot of idol's audience.

I thought a WGWG was going to win because of that. (I figured it would be Usher's because he had the best looking one. And I'll give the voice credit...they had like WGWG 2.0) And, I'm fearing a little bit that they might (2 is better than one) but I really don't think so. The country vote and the WGWG vote is too big.

The irony with Blake is, despite..Danielle being the most talented country artist, I think Amber is actually considerably better at the moment. It would be kind of funny to see Adam win with a country artist.

How does this work. Does it go from 5 to 3 and 3 is the finals, or is 4 the finals? I think it's totally possible that Michelle wins because she seems to be beloved, and with multiple people in the finals there will be vote splitting.

Also..watching Usher and Michelle is just adorable.

But it also sort of reminds me of how Haley was treated by the judges. She's so much better than anyone on that show, I can just imagine how the judges would have treated her. And it seems like everyone who works with her falls in love with her.

Hales' treatment from the judgements is part of what made her journey so epic. She was the fighter that kept getting up after being knocked down. But, as a person, I always felt bad for her. She was only 20 years old at the time...still a kid...and she showed a level of toughness that she shouldn't have had to show.

Nope it's Blake, he won the last 2 seasons and he and Miranda regularly win awards they don't deserve cause they have a large rabid fanbase that power votes for them.

The votes are limited on The Voice, so I don't think vote splitting affects them as much as it affects Idol.

True, but I honestly doubt in a finale that many people are going to be voting for more than one person. Unless it really is "OMG I JUST WANT BLAKE TO WIN."

Otherwise, I'd think Michelle will get a bit of a vote split there. Not to mention she's likely to get Sasha's votes, and apparently a lot of people who liked Amber like Michelle too. Probably because they are drawn to people who are more versatile.

Granted, I fully expect Danielle to win. But I see Michelle as having an outside shot. (Not that it matters, Michelle has Usher by her side. Who clearly adores her. She wins. Once again, it would have been nice to have Usher backing Haley...)
