We were so lucky this time (as opposed to Arlington Park). Thank God it was Sat. instead of Sunday that we were booked. We would never have gotten it in or if we did we would have lost half the crowd. The whole thing was a labor of love! I can't describe the feeling of playing a huge concert with my whole family. We've been blessed. All the hard work payed off. The weather was magically perfect for the show and the next days events! Couldn't have asked for more.

I didn't really hear Haley or Angie talk about how they felt, but I know Tom Kro & Kent Bredrup were pleased at how it turned out. Patti was more interested in how we felt about it than mentioning her own thoughts.

Many consider this her finest performance ever in a concert setting. When you are there and experiencing any concert live, there may be a tendency to over-hype the event, wanting it to be more significant than it really is in the scope of an entire musical career.
After processing for a week now, the same thoughts many of us had that night are still front and center for me. Haley's role of lead singer in a band that has someone else (Harry) directing the band gave her a freedom to relax and just do her part. The amount of rehearsing beforehand probably contributed to this environment and comfort level for her too. Her take charge, professional style as lead singer was superb. She's really coming into her own, and probably why everyone wants her to tour to sharpen these skills even more.
If 15,000 is the best estimate for the number attending the concert, then it would match the sense we had up front of how big this event was. The synergy of the whole band projected confidence, excitement and a level of expertise that helped all of us experience something special. No wonder there are rumblings within the band of doing this again...the participants recognize how significant it was for them too.
It was hard to get a read on Haley the day after, how she felt. For all of us that have seen countless videos of Haley's personality in front of the microphone, in interviews, working the crowd...the "million watt" personality as one Ole exec commented. So for me, I was somewhat disoriented (nothing to do with the Apple Ales ) by seeing Haley in a subdued role at the Sunday party. Let's face it, she can't be "on" all the time (we'll have to keep her away from Tusk's Energizer supplements ).
She was part of the conversation with everyone, yet I felt she was just trying to relax...a kind of "I'm not performing today", chill out situation. Which was probably hard to do with the crazy, psycho fans most of you are. I think I mentioned that thought to Swanman and he said something about that she seemed the same she has been with the group after the Cosmo events in Vegas.
I did get the same vibe Lisa had that Haley's voice seemed a little worn out the day after the concert...but Haley just gave me the "that's me baby" line. Harry seemed truly excited about the event and was amazed that the BG organizers came up with about 15k for the crowd. He commented on how relaxed Haley was singing with all of them. I didn't speak with Patti and Angie about how they felt about the concert. I was just taking in how relaxed they were with everyone. The whole atmosphere at Himm's house was great because he had so many different areas for everyone to hang out without having the Reinharts feeling cornered.
I have no idea how many usually come to these concerts on the Saturday evening of the BGpalooza festival...but it would not surprise me if they invite Haley & The Reinharts back again. We should work on that...so we can do another Shindig...how selfish of us!

I was at Casey Abrams Headliner show the year before and only 15 minutes before the show I found a number of open spaces fairly near the stage for our blanket. There were not many standing for his show and my guess is it was not even half as crowded as the Haley/Midnight show.
Interesting. Given some of the messages from the BG planners to Casey, earlier I had the thought that for next year's show, they should ask the two of them to do a concert together, but different from their CityWalk performance. Instead of "this hour is Haley/this hour is Casey and they share some songs in each their hours" there would be nothing predictable about it -- at least, from the spectator's POV. I can't imagine that Casey wouldn't be happy about Midnight backing him, but do allow him to bring /add Jacob (or Jason??), his saxophone player along. I doubt that Midnight would object.
Think about the endless possibilities there, folks.

I'm hoping and pushing for the Wheeling Park District to have their Grand Opening of the huge Heritage Park complex that should be completed by springtime to have the inaugural Bandshell/Amphitheatre performance be Haley + Midnight, no matter what the cost. I've mentioned it to a number of commissioners (including my wife) and the executive director of the Park District.
...Oh Geez...does this mean I'm volunteering for another Shindig if that happens?
I'm completely aware that costs would be prohibitive, unless they would begin to charge admission for the main concert event. It was nothing but a flight of fantasy -- I rarely have them anymore, so please don't discourage the few I might have.
