RE: One of Haley's unreleased tracks is on Christina Grimmie's new album
Awesome news. I actually hope Christina releases it as a single and it becomes a big hit. It'll raise haley's profile and maybe give her opportunities to work with other artists.
I don't get why some fans are upset. We've known for some time that Haley has been writing songs for other artists. I'm sure there'll be more.

RE: One of Haley's unreleased tracks is on Christina Grimmie's new album
I'm conflicted, on one hand, just another step in the path for a long productive career for Haley in the music business, let's not forget they call it 'the Music Business', for a reason......So that's good
(I'm sure Haley is thrilled that a song of hers has been picked and performed, justification as a song writer, that others want to perform something you wrote)
On the other, as a long time, 'patient' ( ) fan, I feel like this is just another instance of Haley being undervalued as an entertainer. That with her incredibly unique and recognizable voice and infectious personality, she cannot get this acclaim for herself, that she gets the accolade 'by proxy'.
It rubs me the wrong way, a little, that in the middle of talking about how she was inspired to write the other songs on her album, that this gal introduces GYT as if she wrote it, the backstory....a comment on a youtube video does not count as 'giving credit'. (the 'credit' comment for Haley being taken down is telling that they want the song to be connected to this artist only IMO)
I know nothing about this artist, but I've read that she is a fan of Haley's...would it have killed her to take a few seconds to say, "this song was written by a favorite of mine, Haley Reinhart, and I can totally connect with the words...?". If she had given a small hat tip to a fellow artist who is also a 'favorite' of hers... would have gone a long way to making me feel better about this.
I could be wrong, but if Haley was going to introduce a song that was written by a favorite of hers, she would have given them credit... How often have we seen interviews where she is giving credit to people (producers, inspirations, song writers)?
I will get over it, but, right now, Haley not getting the credit, not performing and getting a hit with her own song.... It's a little deflating

RE: One of Haley's unreleased tracks is on Christina Grimmie's new album
Here is an interesting article on how songwriters make money by writing hit songs. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/pictur...y-20120119
Quote:Every time a track or record sells, all the songwriters receive a total of 9.1 cents in mechanical-royalty payments.
Of course, there are a lot more ways for a songwriter to make money. If the song appears in a movie, TV show, videogame or commercial, the publisher or record label makes a deal and the writer gets a certain (usually large) amount in licensing royalties. And a massive hit like "Rolling in the Deep" or "Poker Face" can make as much as $500,000 per year just in radio royalties. Plus, songs create royalties when they're performed in concert – by anybody – as well as at awards shows or sports events. They also draw (small but growing) royalties from streaming online – Spotify, YouTube, Rhapsody and others.
Quote: we can't say how the money is divided up among each songwriter and his or her publishing company – in a typical deal, a major publisher will take half of an inexperienced writer's total royalties, sources say.
Although I can "hear" Haley singing this song when I hear it, all is good for her. Ole is happy, and Haley gains more credibility as a songwriter.

It seems the urge is to give Haley special treatment, but I don't have any problem with Christina's promotion of her album. How often has Haley credited Busby for Free? Haley usually gives the Beatles a lot of credit, but has she mentioned that Baby It's You was written by Burt Bacharach (and Mack David and Barney Williams)?
Haley has remarked that she wrote all of the LU songs except Free, but how often did she mention her co-writers on those songs? She has talked about some of the favorite people she has worked with, but rarely linked thme to specific songs. I don't recall Haley ever mentioning Mozella or Aimee Proal.
I recall Christina gave Haley a shout out after LU was released, but she is concerned with her own career. I don't think she has ever said much about Haley.

RE: One of Haley's unreleased tracks is on Christina Grimmie's new album
Of course, this is a Haley-centric opinion, this is a Haley blog after all. I acknowledged in my opening sentence I understand this is a big step forward....
I remember her giving hat tip to co writer on "Oh My", didn't she also direct a songwriter to her 'jazzed up' version of "Free?" (I'm not good at remembering names and such, who she credited)
As I said, I understand it's a business, and bottom line, being a song writer will be as important to Haley's success in the Music industry. I get that this is a positive thing for her.
But given her 'journey' up to this point, it just feels like another undervaluing of her talent as a performer, which she is excellent as.
As a 'long time' fan who has had to suffer the 'slings and arrows' from 'Haley Haters' and doubters for over two years (quote overload ), is it too much for a Haley fan to receive even the slightest of public validation? Getting good public buzz about Haley from beyond our Halien bubble? I guess that may be what bothers me about another 'under the radar' recognition of talent that we here all can see...
Just one person's opinion, a 'fan's' opinion, at that. I'm sure Haley and the Reinharts view this as a HUGE thing for Haley and are extremely happy for her
Being able to write songs that others can sing, being successful at it, will open doors for other, bigger name performers to use songs she has written as well. Bigger Names, Bigger Hits, more units moved = Money and Reputation increases for Haley...

Like I said, I know nothing about her, just what others who do follow her have posted. I've read that she has mentioned and has said that she's a fan (of course, it's all hear say)

RE: One of Haley's unreleased tracks is on Christina Grimmie's new album
I posted this earlier in the thread...
I do see a 'performance' silver lining to this.....I hope that now that GYT is 'public' we have the possibility that we will be able to hear Haley 'cover' the song LIVE.... So that's a good thing, right?
I'm hoping that she considers it for Vegas since she will be performing for almost 2 hrs each night so there's a lot of time to fill.
(I assume it's like last time, 2 hr set, since she still isn't on the Cosmo's schedule)

RE: One of Haley's unreleased tracks is on Christina Grimmie's new album
As others have said, it's just not customary to talk about the artists who wrote the song. In fact, I think in pop music..unless the artist says they wrote it, the assumption is they didn't.
The fact that she singles out Haley's song as one of her favorites/one that is special too her, is a good thing. IMO. Makes it more likely it is a single.
Haley is an incredible singer. Really incredible. I still say there just isn't a voice like hers, period. But I didn't realize that she was so talented at writing songs. And although Interscope didn't work out, Ole is working out quite well. And this only adds to Haley's credentials. For instance, if this song becomes a hit for Christina..that'll likely make Haley more appealing for her next label (and make the label feel she's worth investing in.)
I'm excited to see who else gets some of Haley's songs. I think it'll be fantastic one day to hear a Haley song on the radio, and then..perhaps..hear a song sung by Rihanna..written by Haley.
