But if she had Haley's voice she probably would have been known more as a singer who was also a prolific song writer.

I appreciate John, Iscat's and Merc's well considered thoughts on this matter. They make a lot of sense, if we turn the situation into some other singer or group, those types of song-writer mentions just don't happen, especially before the album comes out. It will be more likely that the artist will give mention in a future interview discussing an album or song's success.

I really enjoy Haley's version of Get Yourself Together, it will certainly seem foreign to hear someone else perform it. But I think it's possible that Haley wrote and recorded it hoping that someone else might use it. The Hypnotic song was also one of those unreleased leaked songs, which she wrote and recorded the demo for, while never intending to perform it herself. If I remember correctly, she said she wrote it not for herself but for a super poppy artist. Maybe she had similar intentions with GYT, if so, she must be very proud and happy right now. I think this is great news for Haley, plus some extra $ as well. Either way, the more exposure the better.

Underlying my earlier comments is a concern that Haliens send a burst of negativity in Grimmies direction. I don't support that at all. Let it go. One element of the criticism can be construed as "Don't you dare sing one of HER songs" and a possible outcome is that an artist would pass on the Haley Reinhart song next time around.

I'm sure the Haliens who went off on Christina for whatever reason, don't realize that they're actually a liability to Haley when they do this for the very reason that John points out here.

I realize that "Get Yourself Together" was a fan favorite among Haley's unreleased tracks, but she never intended for us to hear those in the first place.

I'd hate to think that Haley's going to have to succeed in spite of her surely fanbase, that unintentionally alienate her by picking fights w/ other artist's & their fanbases. I'm sure it's a small minority of Haliens that do this but they do some damage.

^^^ The Carole King analogy is very good. She was a songwriter for many years before the Tapestry album. One could equate Adele's breakthrough album as similar to the huge out-coming of Carol King's Tapestry album in 1970.

I've said this before...maybe on my drum that others find different...what does it matter what others believe or say about Haley if you like her? The human condition seems to need to be reinforced about our likes by others. We show people what we like and look for their approval, we get some gratification/satisfaction that we are "ok" or somewhat "normal". We know what we have heard and we love it...in the end, if others come around to praise our affection...well, that's ok, but it doesn't validate our original choice to love her music. Time has a way of clarifying what is excellent, and sometimes the world never comes on board with what is truly great. Sometimes only a handful of people really appreciate what is significant and the masses miss it completely...wow, that's a big soap box Buzz...just made it in my garage (Do you like it? )

That performance of 'Beautiful' is one of my personal faves from Haley.

Anyway, I love where Ms. Haley's career-direction is pointing now. Slow, but with substance build-up. Still a fan after all these years!

That is my favorite unreleased Haley song. #1, GOOD for Haley!!! #2, if this becomes a smash hit, and I have to listen to someone else singing it over and over, I won't like it. It's kinda like Rolling In The Deep for me in reverse. Couldn't stand to hear Adele sing it after hearing it sung by Haley over and over in my car.

I'm with the positive part ! I'm not taking issue with you at all NUG but there was some sentiment hidden in other posts in the thread I'm addressing .. not directed at you.. yours was shorter to quote

1) I love this song (I have "accidentally" heard Haley's versions dozens of times ... and find it running through my mind)

2) I love Haley's rhythm and stylizations most of the song and some of Haley's best abilities are show cased in parts. I like the almost rap/hip hop portion .... but I also get that in spades in "follow me(i'm right behind you") ....and I'm sure Haley will encompass it elsewhere in the future.

3) The portion that the Christina sings ( I was hoping that would be the part and it was) is exactly where I have always thougth Haley "fails to deliver" on her own song.

Yes Haley feels it. Yes it has meaning... she wants to "belt" it.. but while I can't read minds I really think she wishes she had a bit more there. It irritates me even though I enjoy the performance as a whole because I hear the strain and know if Haley had more to her voice in that particular "voice" (she can sing the same notes pristinely beutifully in another "voice" (we can argue what to call that.. "soft voice" "head voice" "falsetto et) but the song , as she wrote it and felt it herself(I hear the "feel" as Haley sings it) calls for that "belt'.

I suppose it irritates some to notice flaws in their favorite singer. To be honest it irritates me to hear "my favorite, right or wrong" defenses but I guess that is par for the course. We'd probably agree that she is at her most distinctively best elsewhere but to me if she's amazing in other areas that sort of proves that in those "not-as-amazing-here-as-there" she is well ... that says it. At that sort of climatic accentuation for a song, "less than amazing" stands out and I want a voice that doesn't sound strained but shows full power there. "What you don't know can't hurt you" is another one similar to this.

4) I absolutely love this song and "what you don't know" . Haley wrote the songs (and I'm sure her singing will be studied by the covers). I want to hear a creation taken onward...
4b) Tit for tat - I'd rather hear haley cover another "Santeria" and let someone else run with a song like this - she's the best of the best for me at that. : )

5) I do like Haley's "Rolling in the Deep" better than Adele's. It puts a much more hopeful and appreciative tone on "what could have been" than Adeles sometimes bitter, always-disappointed sound (too many people prefer directed anger over optomism though and might genuinely prefer Adele's)

6) EDIT I DON"T think that this girl is necessary "good enough' I took the time to listen to some other songs by this girl Christina. She's a very good musician with her own distinct style she brings to songs. "better" is a tough word, but I'm sure she'll do the song justice in a way that is true to herself (Christina). Unlike many of you here (; ) ) I can listen to other artists singing songs Haley sung and like them ALSO ... just like I like different Haley covers of the same song done differently for different reasons. I'll start a new thread on Christina

7) of course I'd rather Beyonce or Mariah covered it ! for both $ and artistry sake.. (but to be fair.. I don't know Christina and it could be her youth brings out some of Haley's generational take on things in a sweet way)
