Well, Sinead's response must have struck a chord because I cannot find any derogatory Miley tweets. I was willing to give Miley a little leeway in reference to the VMA's but now I just feel sorry for her. Of course her supporters just add fuel to the fire so I doubt if there will be a satisfactory resolution for this issue...

I think a perspective missing in this affair is that, perhaps, Miley is just a symptom. We have seen several examples of self destruction by young starlets and not all of it is due to external influence.

I have heard here and there, that cutting and scarring is occurring alarmingly more often than the public is aware of. I believe Demi Lovato had famously admitted to this among other things she had to work through. Something in the young female psyche of this and the past few generations has manifested itself in this type of physical abuse to assuage a mental/social/familial issue.

Either way, Miley is taking a lot of warranted heat for her 'acting out', but I think the scope of the problem goes much deeper than yet another public implosion of a once 'innocent' female icon

Sinead O'Conner's career famously plummeted after her SNL act at the end of her performance

Most people misinterpreted the message of her protest and took it as a personal religious attack.

Sinead's intentions, I recall vaguely, was as political as it was religious, she's Irish and their religious issues run deep.


...and this is what Sinead took as an attack on her and Amanda Bynes struggle with mental Health....

Which Miley obviously doesn't understand, and Sinead is trying to explain, these posts are old and at a time when things were spiraling in her life, so a "below the belt" shot at someone in the midst of their struggle with their illness

Sinead has done all she can do, if Miley reaches out, as it might appear that she is...

Miley isn't being self-destructive. She's acting in her own self-interest. She is seeking media attention because she knows being in the public eye generates sales.

The easiest way to get that attention was to destroy her Hannah Montana image. Which, conveniently, also helps her put that era behind her. It's all very calculated.

I think it's unfortunate though that she didn't care that many young girls idolized her. I would even say that she found being a role model too burdensome and was eager to put an end to it.

Her Dad seems to condone what she is doing, although it's a fairly nonsensical explanation, especially when he compares her to Waylon Jennings, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash.



The take away in the muddled response is that this is very calculated and that it's Miley who is directing it.

(I actually stopped listening to most of the interview because, right off the bat, Arsenio discussed "One Hit Wonder" status, that Billy Ray has had 'many' hits 'including' Achy Breaky Heart.... The amusing thing is they never, the entire interview, listed any of his other 'hits'....)

although Billy Ray did perform this craptastic song with Fred Durst, who?, (an almost 'one hit wonder' with the 'band' Limp Bizkit - had some other songs with fair success and did fairly well but also quickly disappeared into "remember this guy?" abyss)



After which, did Billy Ray perform any of his other 'hits'? Nope, instead he performed... you guessed it....



Funny thing is, I just expressed, on Twitter, that Billy Ray is definitely partly to blame for this, that he influenced/enabled Miley into this and rode on her coat tails (He also 'starred' in Hannah Montana)....that he did it because he couldn't stand being known as a one hit wonder, for the one song....

next thing, I know Arsenio is discussing it (One Hit Wonder Status) with him...

Worse than a stage parent... He should know better how to protect his child, but I guess reclaiming fame is worth pimping his daughter out ...

I know there are those whose opinion is, maybe this IS what Miley has wanted all along, that she is the ultimate driver of this truck...

She got into the business very, very young, unlikely she was in any way capable of making an informed decision.... any opinion she had at that stage was given to/for her

What price fame for the (too) young?? We shall see...

Although I consider myself to be one of the most open minded, liberal people I know this Sinead/Miley incident has struck a nerve. Perhaps it is because as a society we are being so manipulated by the media while still choosing to believe we have freedom of choice...

In my 20's I was a fairly attractive young lady and I liked to wear crop tops with my Levis. However, I found that I was bombarded with inappropriate comments from males. My solution to these unwanted comments was to change my attire and the suggestive comments stopped. This was before all the racy advertisement we see today.

It is my contention that young people who have grown up with advertisements that scream money and sex have done a tremendous disservice to our young people, both male and female. Our values are being shaped by ad executives whose bottom line is revenue.

Miley grew up in this ad/commercial environment so she had a difficult time seeing that she has been manipulated her entire life. And Sinead wanted to make a difference but her intentions were misunderstood by society and as a result she has suffered with mental health demons.

Personally I could care less about another's moral compass, I would just like to hope that ones' values do not come from being brainwashed by the media. Discernment is cultivated by a respect for oneself as well as others...

I think it's primarily the media outlets - magazines, television and the movies - that are shaping societal values by using sex to attract attention.

Most advertisers are fairly conservative. I recently worked on a direct mail piece for a credit union that had an image of a woman in a one-piece bathing suit interacting with her small child on the beach. Because she was bending toward the child, there was some cleavage. We had to Photoshop it out. Most advertisers will also try to show diversity as well in terms of sex, race and age (no fat people though). In short, they're very conscious of public perception and generally not risk takers.

Britney Spears started out the Disney al American girl than she became a product of her environment Yes the bottom line is money, but these kids do have a choice. I do hope Patty and Harry will continue to advise Hales. I think that's why I would like to see her as a song wrighrtr more than a singer IMO
