RE: Haley Reinhart's funky a$$ reality project
I think that might be the finest post Midnight has ever made.

Yes, and no.
Haley is very talented but marketing talented musicians isn't the first priority of the music biz. They're looking to make money in the short term and don't care about an artist's long-term future. It's "what can you do for me today?"
So Haley has to fend for herself. I believe she is more confident now in her abilities as a songwriter and a performer. I also believe she is playing the long game. So she has to ask herself, "How do I carve out a future for myself?"
Some people think she should be "gigging." Thousands of people have taken that approach. Including her parents. She respects them immensely as musicians but Harry hasn't had the luxury of not keeping his day job.
Songwriting provides a surer income than performing because the royalties are higher and more enforceable. So that is a priority for Haley. She has been recording though over the past year.
So the question is, "What should she do with her new creations?" Should she release them herself or use them to entice a label? If the latter, does she give one away to generate some buzz?
I dunno. It will be interesting to see what Haley does (or her new management). She has been wrestling these questions for more than a year now.
I said earlier that it has probably been drilled into Haley that nothing happens without a hit song (that's why she was dropped and never toured).
It would be easy for Haley to interpret that to mean fan interaction should take a backseat to song creation. But if she wants to be signed again to a label (I'm not convinced she does), a good amount of buzz could attract a label's attention.
I'm rambling here. But to surmise: We're impatient. We want Haley to achieve stardom. Haley's playing the long game. She remains confident that if she continues songwriting and recording that she will be able to make a living.
A hit song -- performed by her or someone else -- will make it easier.

I'm trying to illustrate the 'honesty' from the 'not as commited as we' perspective of fan. We grew up in a time that you didn't have near the information about your favorite musician as they have now. At best you had to wait a month for a magazine to read paragraphs of updates. Not the case now.
So I can't get upset that a 'fan' is expressing frustration given the circumstances. Some express it more brusquely than others. If you can talk it out, that sometimes helps. Sometimes you need to put on an objective hat and maybe see from the other side's perspective to understand the root of the message they are sending.

First, I think Haley has been enjoying her life. We can list off numerous experiences since beginning her AI journey that would be a thrill for anybody.
There are lots of extremely talented people outside of showbiz who spend a long period of preparation (say in medicine, for example) before realizing a successful career. Of course the path to success might be outlined fairly well. The music industry is in transition and there is no road map to follow to success. A very few hit it big, perhaps quickly, but this eludes many very talented people.
Haley is a bright young woman and she wants to be in control of her career. She had her experience with a label and learned some painful lessons. I think she decided to proceed with caution. She is taking time to learn legal aspects of the business. But ultimately doing so to serve her interest in singing and maintaining creative freedom and integrity. She is needing to use that left side of her brain.
Meanwhile, she seems be pursuing a strategy that includes songwriting for others. But also recording. She's prudent and is quite willing to work hard and lay the groundwork for her career. This may test the patience of some, but it does seem she is trying to find a sustainable career path that is not dependent on instant stardom or selling out.

I know, I've been basically saying this for months, the situation over at IDF warranted a display of empathy. It was taking a turn for the worst so it behooved me to acknowledge why they felt the way they felt, to defuse it. Fairly successful IMO
To clarify, when I say, "longer than her talent warrants", I meant, with her talent, how can she not be signed by now? Why are labels not knocking down her door by now?
I realise now, that it could read as if I was putting the onus on her that it's been taking "so long", not what I meant to say
I have always believed that in order for a creative, an artist, to be able to express their art, they must live and enjoy life. It will be a source of inspiration in the future. The trick is to balance work and play enough so that you can live and enjoy life, while moving forward in your expectations for yourself in your career

RE: Haley Reinhart's funky a$$ reality project
What ever desires and expectations we place on Haley and her career, are for our own egoic minds, which is always based on shadow or base emotions (the need to be right). I'm not saying it's not also because we want the best for her, or that she deserves the best- she does. If we operate truly on light and natural progression, enjoying each moment for itself like Haley does, then it doesn't really matter what she's planning, all we have to do is enjoy the product, like she is enjoying her young life. Kind of like what Himm said. It's very hard to not tell another what they should or should not be doing, rather than letting them walk their path, especially when it's someone you care for so deeply like a child, or like we truly adore Haley.
It has been frustrating at times for me, but only to the point of I want a bit more fan interaction. Every time Haley is asked, "When are you getting a label, when are you touring" must be like a burr under her saddle, a little irritation nagging. She's working on it, I have to work on just taking what I can get, and be grateful that she is in my life as an artist.

Such as it is, the wisdom of King Solomon yet lives in a lovely lady. No surprise here!
