RE: Haley Reinhart's funky a$$ reality project
Quote:A tour together would be great. A few songs..great. But I wouldn't want them to be a permanent duo.
mercfan, herein lies the difficulty of the two of them touring together, although I'm one who advocates that they do so. Both Haley and Casey are such very good musicians and demonstrate that individually. But when they perform together "magic" seems to happen.
I understand that they both want to have individual careers and I support that. But, as I said above, when they perform together, we, their audience, are transported into another world.
I wouldn't want to be in either of their shoes.

RE: Casey and Haley and (?) at Room 5 on Monday 3-31-14

Its uncanny the sound that Haley gets on the blues solo.To me it still sounds like its going back and forth between trumpet and harmonica but, being Haley the sound is all her own.
kaypea, I am, indeed, impressed with the musicianship. And, as you pointed out, this isn't really a "working band." But as you and I both know, the better the musicianship, the less they need to be "rehearsed."
And there's something about Casey's musicianship that seems to be a magnet that really gifted, talented, skilled young musicians gravitate towards him. Not a bad place for Casey & Haley to be in.
A couple things...listening to Midnight's video with some good headphones I find the find the sound dynamics to be fantastic. The first time through I was actually startled by crowd noise that seemed to come from behind me. Given the video was taken so close, with a quality camera and in a small venue, it gives a unique visual and audio experience that is exhilarating. The videos by others are also quite good. The Halien Nation has some very competent and dedicated videographers -- something I appreciate very much.
I've enjoyed comments by MAE, Kaypea, Mercfan and others about Haley and Casey playing together. There are certainly risks and rewards, and I am in the camp that hopes they continue to play together at local venues while maintaining separate careers, at this point.
I think that a big plus for Haley in appearing with Casey in small venues is that she can learn from his relaxed and spontaneous style. At heart, Casey is like a wandering minstrel. He knows how to engage the audience so that everybody is in the spirit and having fun. Haley would benefit by learning some of the skills that are so natural for him. (And he might benefit by being reeled in a bit).

Thank you Rachael and Midnight for all the vids posted – you have made many very happy and we are all grateful that you took the time to take them and post them for our viewing pleasure.
There have been a lot of good discussions about Haley and Casey in this thread. I couldn’t agree more with John. “I am in the camp that hopes they continue to play together at local venues while maintaining separate careers, at this point”. Haley and Casey both connect musically and can spontaneously make a moment with very little practice. When on Idol and they walked out and did Moanin’ everyone was like where did that come from – in a very good way. Casey is more of a free spirit (wandering minstrel is a perfect analogy). He is extremely talented and has a great stage personality and gets the crowd engaged. Haley can learn a lot from what comes naturally to him. On the other hand he too can learn from her. Haley is very mature for a 23 year old and he can learn from her discipline and work ethic. Don’t get me wrong I think they both work very hard, it’s just that Haley takes the business end much more seriously and appears to be networking more and tires to make more strategic business decisions than Casey appears to.
Haley comes from a musical family. Harry is a very accomplished guitarist and is very serious about music but also enjoys having fun. If you have ever seen him play in person he oozes music much like Haley. Jazz is his passion but he does a lot of other music. I think Haley is very much like Harry and while she enjoys and is doing what she wants now (she is young) - I think she will ultimately end up doing more jazz later in her career. I don’t know for sure but it is in her blood and you can just tell when she sings it. Irvin Mayfield recognizes it too that is for sure. She chose to sing in a jazz band in high school at a very young age and I think that is really where her passion is but you have to pay the bills and Haley knows that. IMHO
