During the NOLA Jazz Fest this past spring David Block played with Rising Appalachia at the The Sugar Mill.

On the following evening at The Sugar Mill, Rising Appalachia enlisted the sacred electronic elements of The Human Experience to recreate their mystifying collaboration Soul Visions. The EP of the same name was my favorite record of 2013, any genre, and so excited I was for this high profile performance that I invited my own mother, in town for her sixth consecutive Jazz Fest, along to soak up the Soul Visions. Songs like "Mississippi" and "Swoon," written for, about and containing the sights, scents and auras of New Orleans, were reinvented with mellifluous, sacred bass-driven meditations, reverberating Zen vibrations flowing underneath Appalachian sisters in song. The evening began with The Human Experience, David Block’s principal project, featuring former American Idol contestant Haley Reinhart. After months of attending various music festivals, completing a successful Indiegogo campaign and a shooting a futuristic music video that takes her away from the mainstream eyeballs into the a completely new realm, she and Block mixed live electronic music with powerful vocals. The combination of the two was perhaps unexpected but showed off the strengths of both Block and Reinhart as they blended their talents to captivate the audience early on.
