Haley, Mark Ballas, BC Jean & Dylan Chambers - August 3, 2014 at Hotel Cafe

It’s a joy going through the SMYM Congratulations Card and Hotel Café threads simultaneously. Not to mention the SMYM Reality Project. Usually one thread with a lot of activity about Haley is great.

It is fun seeing all the pictures especially the ones of you guys with Haley and the SMYM Card with Haley. Thanks Rachel, Tusk and Pat. The video of Haley seeing the card for the first time makes it even more indelible. The SMYM card is a very nice way Rachel is able to bring Haley’s fans to Haley to express their gratitude and love when it is difficult for a lot of us to see her in person. The framed picture from Tusk to Haley is gorgeous. It truly depicts that special day at the video shoot for the four of you and Haley.

Another wonderful show put together by Haley. Thanks Tusk and Rachel for filming and posting. One of the things that impresses me about Haley is that her shows are always fresh and new sounding. Haley’s music selections are so diverse and even on songs she repeats Haley is able to change things up and express the tone, tempo and dynamics in various ways.

Not only are the covers substantially different but so are Haley’s originals from Better to My Cake to SMYM. Artists I like can often become unexciting to me because their music has a tendency to sound the same. Playing with assorted musicians probably adds to the variety. I will never tire of Haley’s voice but on the other hand I will always be drawn into Haley’s range of music and the Haley touches she puts on them.

I love seeing Haley’s playful personality and engaging her audience in the music.

I thought the trumpet playing on HTRJ is really good. I probably missed it somewhere, but who is he?

Unfortunately, anything after Haley's performances was outside of my reality so I couldn't tell you what was happening on stage other than Mark Ballas had the biggest crowd reaction and was very engaging and entertaining (I'm unfamiliar with his songs)...

What an awesome show I picked to go to!! I'll admit to a little buyers remorse after I bought my ticket. The usual; its pricey, how many songs will she sing since she's sharing the billing and also my daughter invited me to an event that I had to decline (parents will understand that one). But Haley brought her A+ game. I've heard people say she was on another level and she absolutely was! Haley's stage presence, energy and singing were the best I've seen yet. Maybe because she's performing more or maybe the influence of other musicians she's hanging with, whatever it is it seems to be working to her advantage. No sitting on a stool but dancing and groov'n during her entire set. She was fierce! Her whistling during Sitt'n On The Dock Of The Bay was remarkable. Who knew that she had that talent too?!! Scatting, mouth trumpet and now whistling? What other hidden talent does she have? She had the crowd engaged and participating the whole time and it was obvious there were many fans of hers there. A late Sunday night concert worked in our favor as it probably limited the number of fans in attendance but it was an enthusiastic audience.

Yanni asked me at the end of the night if i still had buyers remorse and I had to tell him with a laugh an emphatic NO! Hanging out with Halien friends during the weekend and seeing and talking to Haley and hearing a great concert was worth every penny I spent!! With the added bonus of seeing Rachel give Haley her card, just more icing on the cake!

but....BC's voice is terrible IMO, and Mark and Dylan aren't that much better....I know I know....

I'd certainly agree with you about BC Jean -- she should stick to song writing. Mark, and particularly Dylan, have been pleasant surprises. (That could be because my expectations had been so low, they had no where to go but up.) Dylan seems to know his way around his instrument -- and also he really seems to enjoy performing.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOO ya caught me! I think I am just used to Casey and Haleys near perfect harmonies. The others...not so much. They are both great guitar players though, and like I said, it's nice to have them take her under their wing. BC's voice hurts my ears and I hope they never, ever sing HTRJ again. Ever.

Although I thought BC Jean was someone else the first time we heard her join in on HTRJ, I said then that she couldn't sing. (She's probably lucky that Beyonce did steal "her" song, which then became a big hit -- it wouldn't have with BC singing it!). I think Mark may use his guitar playing to compensate for what he lacks vocally.

But, as you said, neither Mark nor Dylan have Casey's confidence in singing harmony with Haley. (They also haven't been singing with her -- off and on -- for 3 years.) And, well, Caley -- is Caley!

Well, that's not necessarily true. They could have "fixed" it in the studio.

Penny, seeing Haley perform was so worth the price of the flight and hotel!! I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Just 3 years ago, I never would have amagined traveling all over to see a singer perform. But I am and I've been having a ball doing it. My husband doesn't like to travel, (he's a real homebody) but he doesn't mind if I do. So, bring on the next adventure!

I asked Haley on Sunday if she would do the Cosmopolitan again and she said she's open to it. So maybe if she gets booked, it could be a Halien gathering with fans coming in from all over. Three nights of 3 sets each night is a real treat!
