RE: New song, "Love is Worth Fighting For" - meaning of lyrics, etc.
Haley spoke about some offers on the table in an interview a number of weeks back, I wonder if something significant fell through recently.
In many ways Haley has had it relatively easy following her AI experience. She had the album, then even after getting dropped she was able to travel, participate in writing camps, perform with NOJO, do the big gig with her family and have other cool experiences. And she hasn't had to get a day job.
Now she has gotten into the LA music scene and has been hanging out with various artists, who, to a large extent could be characterized as struggling musicians and performers. I'm delighted that she has been performing more and with various people. But I wonder if being closeup to the struggles and frustrations of other young singers and performers adds to her disheartened feelings. Now that she finds herself in their arena. Many of her contemporaries in the music scene might relate to the message, but otherwise find themselves unmoved by her new song. They had to get the day job a long time ago.
I do think the new song reflects continuing growth on Haley's part. She lets us have a peek at some of her feelings and frustrations, for real. She is paying some dues now. I hope she responds like we have seen her respond to adversity in the past. She has reached that point where many artists get screened out because they aren't willing to persevere.

RE: New song, "Love is Worth Fighting For" - meaning of lyrics, etc.
Her fan base comprises of fans of many different genres, young and old. I think she does want to please her fans so, with such a mix of genres to please, she's in a no win situation, someone will be unhappy. The difference with SMYM/Indiegogo, is that people were asked to give money, "buy a stake" so when she performed a genre not to their liking ('pop') that's why the negativity went up a few notches, and from some fans as opposed to haters.
I've said it before, I think Haley believed SMYM to be a fun project to include fans, not a 'career maker or breaker'. Her fans believed their money was to help 'relaunch' her into the public eye, so to them, much more was riding on the end product. So if you were hoping for an old time jazz song, that you put money towards, you were sorely disappointed at SMYM.
I think Haley was not expecting the reaction, because to her, it was a fun project for friends and fans.
Perhaps one of the things holding her back is she wants to do it all, which makes it hard to figure out which market to maximize any return potential labels want from her. She may be asking for more control than they're willing to give...
There are a laundry list of reasons for where we are where we are, but none of us can know except for Haley and her family.
Luckily, I'm a fan of Haley. I love rock/ blues, I like some Jazz, I like some Pop.... but from Haley? I'm just excited to see where her instincts lead her, no matter the genre she's experimenting in.
My advice to her? You can't please everyone. Your instincts are true and your talents are real. You've been raised in a family of music which is your grounding. Do what you feel, do what you love.... in the end, it will be what defines you, not the genre you chose or the people you please

There can be something to say for the struggle. If you don't go through it--do you really appreciate what you have when you come out the other side? These experiences will shape Haley's perspective and the music she writes and so on.
Of course, I don't want her to be sad or frustrated or doubt herself. But, I have read some books on artists that I have loved--and there almost always seems to be a struggle behind the success. Paying dues and so forth. I remember reading about Joni Mitchell. What a brilliant songwriter she is. And a lot of her great songs come from some sort of pain or struggle. Some were romantic--some were other personal issues--some were business related. Whatever--they helped shape her music writing.
Haley is still very young. I know she's not a teen--but 23-24 is still pretty young. A lot of those entering the entertainment business are just getting out of school at this point. I don't think hanging out with other musicians trying to make it in the business is a bad thing. I think it's a good thing. They learn from each other--whether it's mistakes or successes. And it's a community. Like young actors trying to make in the theater in NYC.
The song was very emotional thing for me. Haley certainly is one hell of a talent. As Tusk said--she has a variety fans with diff musical tastes. Not all of her songs or gonna be to all of her fans liking. But, so what? She's got to do what her gut tells her --and I think she will.
I just love her

If you listen to the song, and then read the lyrics, it really makes you think of what Haley may have been thru. Yes, it's quite impressive! Haley is an amazing songwriter. Been humming this song all day!!
Here is another copy of the lyrics posted from CarolinaHalien on IF that I find easy to read
